My baby tortoise got lost when he was in my backyard but he is nowhere to be seen now. My sibling let him outside unsupervised for 2-3 hours and we’ve been searching for him since yesterday. He’s just a baby no more than 3 months. What should i do?? Im afraid he crawled through some hole in my fence or was eaten by birds or dogs.

Get on your hands and knees so you are searching at the tort level. He is buried himself probably , that's what babies do. Look in sun spots along fence maybe. Look slowly and carefully good luck.Oh you might put posters up too... lost tort

I couldn’t find any trace of my tort burrowing. I searched in my neighbors’ backyards, but I couldn’t find him. Is he possibly hibernating? Sorry i’m a new owner and this is my first time losing my tortoise which is causing me a lot of anxiety ?

It's almost impossible to find an escaped baby tortoise. Never give up, but there's really not much hope.

Place some fresh food and water in a sheltered place and see if it gets his attention. You may find him grazing and get him back. Check at the base of plants of there is loose recently moved soils as that is where he may have burrowed. Good luck hope it turns up. They are escape artists so if your not observing a safe unescapable enclosure is the only option.

If you find soil that has been dug up by a plant you either have to wait or very carefully scrape away remove the loose soil and you will then find shell. You then have to very carefully expose the shell work out front and back and use a stick to lever very gently under the shell. Just take maximum care . Hope you find it.

It would be too bad if he was preyed upon and if dogs could get into your backyard.
All I can say is, sorry but keep looking! Good luck.
A pic of your backyard may give us some ideas.

Your baby will be under a bush, nearly covered by old leaves. What kind of Tortoise do you have? Does this type of tortoise hibernate? Where is Toa Alta? What is the weather like this time of the year?
