Hey guys!
Just wanted to introduce myself. I have a newly acquired Hermann’s Tortoise, his name is Tortie (my son named him haha). Big exotics enthusiast, have snakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. My son wanted a turtle so bad after seeing them hiking etc, after deliberating we went with a tortoise.
He is awesome. We got a tortoise house for indoors, but have built a sectioned off area in our fenced back yard so he can be outside in spring summer, although I’m weary since we live in a very rural area with lots of property so a lot of outdoor critters like skinks and I’ve seen a few kingsnakes. Any tips on this would be good and any tips in general! 57EFAF9F-D37F-4913-AA18-933E76D9C709.jpeg

Welcome to the forum! Enjoy. I don't know much about keeping the snakes away, but hopefully someone will be able to help you.

Hi, and welcome!
Wanted to say this group is such a rarity, been a snake owner for a long time so part of a lot of forums FB pages and I’ve never seen a group that’s so nice and helpful on any and every topic, I’ve gone through so many posts getting info for my tort and all the comments are so helpful and nice. It’s cool to see, too often you just see newbies being ripped to shreds.

Welcome! This is genuinely the best exotics group I’ve been apart of without a doubt.

I live in TN as well! I’ve only seen one snake large enough to be a concern personally, the raccoons are what I’m more concerned about. I’d add a cover while he’s still small just some chicken wire or something similar. If you have a cat or a dog you can also put some of their hair around the pen, or let them around it to mark and what all, should be a great natural deterrent to anything that might get to close.
