I don't see any small bumps. Are you asking about the texture on each scute? If yes, that is normal.

Here is the correct care info for your species. Most of them are started and housed all wrong. This info will help your baby to thrive:

The predominant plant in your enclosure there is oxalis. Its not deadly toxic, but as far as we know, they really shouldn't be eating that.

Thank you for the info!

We actually moved him to an area with more clovers since he seemed to love those, but will be moving the enclosure back to an area of our garden with more burmuda grass.

The species is native to our area.

Are you saying that there's an "East London" in South Africa?

If you havent, could you add Africa to your location. Anyone giving help likes to know where you are located so the correct info can be given. No one is going to think Africa seeing East London.
I appreciate this advice as am new to the forum, currently residing in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Please could you let me know how I can go about changing my location to South Africa?

I've spent a few months all over the Cape. I love it there. Its a very special place on the planet.

Even in the native environment, babies need extra care. The habits they adopt in captivity, and the limitations of our enclosures create issues that surviving wild babies are able to avoid. I've seen this here in Southern California with our native desert tortoises, and my friend Tomas from Senegal saw it with sulcatas that he was breeding and reintroducing to the wild through his African Chelonian Institute.
