People suck sometimes.
Tom, I truly can't argue that people sometimes make very poor choices. I think that its quite likely that the perpatrators of this crime were likely ignorant, imprverished indigent persons merely trying to feed their families. An excuse? No, but a reason perhaps. I hope that law enforcement comes to the rescue before permanent damage is done. Education and living wages are perhaps the best cure.

27 year old Jasmine the Galapagos tortoise died June 7, 2021 due to injuries she received from being run over by a Chevrolet pickup truck by would be thieves who were trying to flee the scene after getting caught in the act of attempting to steal the tortoise.
This horrible crime was committed in Laveen, Arizona, just south of Phoenix.
There is a substantial reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.
Not only was Jasmine sweet and sociable, she was also a wonderful ambassador for tortoises and reptiles, having met many people in her lifetime. She was also a breeding female of an endangered species. Her offspring are living in various zoos and bringing joy to all who get to meet them. Captive breeding of Giant Galapagos tortoises helps to ensure that people can enjoy seeing these magnificent creatures in person, without depleting the wild population.

I can't stop thinking of her and what Jerry went through
You are not alone. Many of us feel that way. I've shared a few meals with Jerry and he's always been a good guy. Hope to see him in November.
