Good job man. Most people on Craigslist animals are in horrible conditions. They get tired of them and try to make some profit from tbem.
Thanks, I live with three wonderful Russians that I got from Craigslist... and a fourth found wandering in a park in Virginia.

Same, but feeding them on a rough tile was adequate to correct the issue with mine.

OK! STOP NOW!!! For around 15 years I have had turtles and tortoises. They live in tort tables in the house and weather permitting they are outside. There are tortoises in a tort shed with a plywood floor. I have tried that slate or rough tile advice and it is a crock in my experience. I have not ever heard anyone say that their whatever had an over grown beak and it was fixed by the tile thing.
All of my box turtles have over grown beaks. I got Mary Knobbins 4 years ago and she came with an overgrown beak. and in her time with me she grazes and pulls on weeds and bites sticks and whatever and her beak broke in half. So, sorry Jamie, I don't believe in the rough tile advice...:)

No apology is necessary, in my experience it works, in your experience, it doesn't... I don't think you're lying, or why you think I might be.

A few of my Russians have come to me with somewhat overgrown beaks and after a year or so in my care, they're less overgrown... I think it's at least partially attributable to the rough tiles I feed them on, but honestly can't be sure... more to the point, I don't care because the problem got better.

I'm not trying to sell you on using the tiles, simply reporting on my experience; certainly, you should believe what you want.

I know you aren't. I should have put some lolololol so you would know I wasn't trying to insult you or anything. My sister also recommends rough tiles they just didn't work for me...
Well...some friends are hauling me off to the beach in an hour or so.It's supposed to be 104 today...I'm gonna go walk in the Pacific ocean...

Enjoy the beach, and sand, and family.

Weird friends make up some of my favorite family, but I know what you mean... have a great day... get sandy!

Jamie
Bringing blankets and food and an umbrella...the whole 9 yards...The Pacific Ocean is about an hour or so away on a 2 lane 25 mph mountain road...(I like that part)
It's supposed to be 103 today, extremely hot for Corvallis. Most people don't have air conditioning in house or car...

Ugh, this summer has been tough... we've rained more than anyone can remember, and the flooding is astounding.

It normally rains here 7 months a year, but as you know, we are burning up.and in a drought. The sun is just punishing. Vegetation that normally would be green is brown and burned. I had a Hydrangea, a big one, and it was well hydrated and it burned to a crisp on damp soil.
Those who don't believe in climate warming needs to come see the Pacific North West, oops, we're gonna get in trouble for hijacking this thread...

Nice!

My guy, Chili, lived with the person before me for twenty years... I just wrote a book speculating that he might be one of the Zond-5 tortoises, as an explanation for his perpetual grumpiness.

Sorry guys,
I kinda have to agree with Maggie.
Ok… let me put it this way…
Your nails are like their beaks…
So now take that slate and rub your nail across it for awhile ….
Did it do anything?
Ok… then.

If it DID do something …..remember….
YOU HAD TO SCRATCH YOUR FINGERS ACROSS IT FOR AWHILE! ?
(Just saying)…
Be happy with what you’ve got.

My own beak is over grown ???and I try to be the best possible big beaked “B” that’s walking in MY skin! ?
What I’m trying to say is …
JUST LOVE YOUR TORT THE WAY HE/SHE IS?
They are rescues for a reason..☹️
Good luck and God Bless. ❤️
