Just a note, for what it's worth... With galapagos, we are reluctant to use corn-based foods. So the LS was a good option. I find all my tortoises do learn to eat it and eat it eagerly. However, we recently also have been using Purina Equine Senior Horse Feed. Formulated very similar to LS, but about 1/5 the price - 50 lbs for about $24. Makes a difference when you are feeding a lot of tortoises!

It is 14% protein and low carbohydrate. No corn. Right calcium/phosphorus ratio with D3, magnesium and other essential vitamins. Also much lower in sugars as there is much less molasses in the formula. With tortoises and the very slow gut transit times, having low sugar and no corn eliminates some of the potential problems with that fermenting in the gut.

Seems like there are only 2-3 different varieties on their site now.

Regular - 5M21

LS - 5E5L

LS Small Tortoise - 5M3A

CU - 5M4L I haven't seen this one before but the website says equivalent to 5M21.
All I can say is yeah!!! I bought the right formula this time. Even though it actually said for the larger tortoise and wouldn't include Russians in the list, the one being shipped is for a small tortoise. 5M3A. It was kinda confusing on their site and maybe based on the size of the bag and also the size of the pellets. What I really like is no corn but Sapphire will be the deciding factor.☺️

When Bob was alive I supplemented his diet with original Mazuri softened and it was like crack to him, but after he died I just stopped buying it I can't remember why. These 3 Russians I just got came with a 40 lb bag of Mazuri

It does not say anything about tortoises any where on the bag. Also no where is there printed ingredients, there's a link to read. All 3 Russians had that version of Mazuri as their total diet. It looks exactly like rabbit pellets. All 3 have over-grown beaks. I used hot water to soften it, and it did soften...the Russians aren't eating right now...however Mary Knobbins, who will eat anything wouldn't eat the Mazuri, even with purple rose of sharon mixed in...

What's the forums general opinion of Zoo Med's Grassland Tortoise Food? Cholla hated both the Mazuri LS and the Zoo Med formula but now she's eating both.

@maggie3fan The ingredients and "Tortoise Diet" would have been on the tear off label sewed into the top closure thread.

It's only good if your tortoise will eat it ?. Mine wouldn't eat the Zoo Med so I'm going to try Mazuri LS. That's just my opinion and I've tried the other Mazuri and what ever other grassland tortoise food I could find. Hopefully he'll try this one.?

When I purchased my bag of Mazuri Tortoise LS, I believe all the bags look alike. But there was a paper tag sewn in with the stiching to close the bag that had information identified the contents if that bag, it may be on the stiching on the bottom of the bag. Just incase you missed it. My Sucata loves Mazuri LS!

I drop a couple of dried hibiscus flowers in a small jelly jar and add water and leave it in the fridge. When it’s time for the Mazuri LS I pour the hibiscus water over the pellets and it gets devoured. It doesn’t seem to matter that it’s cold, they both couldn’t get enough of it

Sometimes I will take dried hibiscus and do the same

These guys seem to enjoy the LS more every time I offer it. I am looking forward to trying out the Purina Senior Horse Feed that @Markw84 mentioned for our larger tortoises. Our local tractor supply stocks it.

My little Sapphire received his 8oz shipment today. When I brought him inside I had a little bit mixed with some fresh cut romaine. He did show an interest in it. I think it may work. I'm really hopeful now. I just want him to have some now and then. I've never been able to get him interested in any of the other types. It's so tiny that I can soften it easily and mix up a small amount. He evidently is attracted to the smell.?
