I’ve been trying to find a local source for orchid bark in west Michigan and have had zero luck. Anybody know of anything in Michigan that sells it in bulk? Would like to buy the 2 cubic foot bags if possible before buying smaller 24 qt bags online for 15 each

I wish you luck, but I don't think you are going to find it. Here in Connecticut/New England is not to be had. It seems to be more of a CA thing.

I've never seen fir bark in bulk either (except in a giant "you haul it" pile - yeah, no thanks).

Reptibark is the most consistent. I like Better Gro, but if you're buying several bags it comes out to about the same price. I tried buying the Miracle Grow coarse blend and one bag was moldy when I opened it ?

I have no idea how much shipping would cost but you can get 2 cf bags of orchid bark from OFE orchid supplies in Florida for $28.

Yeah I seen a couple bags on clearance at a Walmart for a dollar but they all have fertilizer in them

It is a California thing! I found it by going on the EB Stone website and looking for local nurseries that carry it and found several here in San Diego. Unfortunately they only have it on the West Coast!

That’s what I was starting to guess with the amount of places I’ve tried looking at and calling

I also went on EB Stones website, looking for a friend, many of the places they said had it, didn't, had many other EB Stone products, But NOT the Orchid Bark. (must have called 6 places locally)
Fortunately here in the East Bay of the SF Bay, there are several very good Hort places. So I can grab a 2 Cu. Ft, for bout $12, NO fertilizer, JUST bark...

There is a product they call Orchid bark with is harder to find. EB Stone also has a product much easier (and cheaper) to find they call Micro Bark. 2 cu ft bags for about $11. That is what I use in all my enclosures and night houses.

Fir Bark is indeed a west coast "thing". It is a by-product of the lumber industry and fir tree forests are here on the west coast. Too bulky and costly to ship for retailers and suppliers to carry it much on the east coast.

Yeah I can find a orchid bark type substrate in local stores but it’s small 4 quart bags and all have fertilizer in them

Yeah that would be perfect if only it wasn’t the other side of the country lol I could see how it would be too costly for shipping and everything
