I was looking through some old turtle books to get rid of and happened upon this photo of a young A. yniphora and cracked up.

Who knew the Madagascar bowsprit tortoise was a very popular pet and is being bred in captivity?? I think I’m going to go down to my local PetsMart and pick one up!

I can make it to Albuquerque in less than 12 hours. Maybe only 10 if there are Yniphora available. I'll join you!

I like that a red foot holds down his food with a foot so he can take a bite. Houdini likes to sit on his food & there's nothing in their wiggling that he has to worry about getting away from him. That must be where that wealth of info on Facebook comes from.

That's some fast driving! Maybe you can hire Maggie to make it in 6, she's supposedly got some fast cars.

I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with this caption. They seem to be confusing Angulata with Yniphora, based on the name. Or, were Yniphora ever called 'bowsprit' or possibly even 'angulated'? Seems like the only factual word in the caption as it relates to the pic is "Madagascan." Either way, neither species was widely bred in captivity so I'm not sure where that came from.

It probably is. These are the some of the widely available books that are filled with bad info. I'm guessing people on FB read them years ago and then never refined or updated their thinking.

South Africa Bowsprits breed like rabbits in South Africa. Maybe that's what they are referring to?

How can you tell if the hatchlings are "well-adjusted?" Are they given some sort of psychological assessment test before being put up for sale?

I have seen yniphora called the "Madagascar Angulated Tortoise" in some old books.
