Hello everyone hope we are all good.

Our anging little Angus has found he's got a widgy and since doing so, has taken to playing with it multiple times a day. Now while it horrified us when it first happened, its now a regular occurrence. I know little boys do like to play with their toys, but I was under the impression it's rare they just whip it out and some owners don't find out their sex till quite late. Angus is now 1year and 7months old, and weighs 4437g. While I'm a little concerned about the frequency he is entering himself, its more about the health side of it. Is it a good sign? Should I be worried about what's getting stuck to it, like his Coco coir substrate? He does sort of hump his little dirt mound then suck it back up covered in it. I keep having to jet wash him ? he does like to whip it out in the bath but more so out of it ?‍♀️. He hasn't started humping objects yet, tho I am sure I have that to look forward to lmao.

Any advice and funny stories of your own much appreciated ?

Lmao. Normally they will get over it, nothing to worry about.
He is young for already flashing, usually they don't until around 3 years and like you said sometimes not at all. Lucky you too know much sooner.
Eventually he will stop.

When they first discover it's an obsession for a little while. He will get over it soon enough and it won't happen as much, but it will still happen ?

It does seem to be an obsession at the moment, glad he'll calm it down that's reassuring. Dreading him doing it Infront of my mum and sister I'll never hear the end of it. He has done it while on video call with my partner, he was showing me what a good boy he'd been munching his way through his tea, then he's whipping it out unfortunately my work colleagues also got more than they bargained for lmao ? "aww he's so cute, look how big he is now!....arggg WTFs that!!!" Supervisor was amused and scared for life I think.

Should I be worried about Coco coir sticking to him? It won't cause problems or infections or anything will it? Seen many stories of prolapse and amputations, just making me nervous.

I'm not concerned about the penis. I'm concerned about 4437 grams at 19 months old. Is that a typo? Did you accidentally hit the 4 key twice?

Are we talking about a sulcata? 4437 at that age would have to be a world record for growth. My biggest, fastest growers under perfect conditions with Mazuri, green beans, alfalfa and other high protein items in the diet barely reach half that size in that time frame.

Yes he's a sulcata. Ive been trying to find a chart or something to see what his size/age and weight should be. But haven't succeeded. When I got him he was 48g at 4 months from a pet shop. He was started off dry and in an open top table. I noticed he wasn't happy with it got all my info from your guide (the Bible). After that he took off. His weigh and size increased at steady rate, his shell is almost perfect save for a couple of white spots which I found to be lamp burns slowly disappearing now, he's not small or compact so I can't say he's over weight, he can fully take himself into his shell without any hesitation.

The last I measured his size was 03/12/21 he was 21cm wide and 28cm long weighed 3927g.

His fast growth did worry me a bit as I knew they grew quick but didn't know it was this quick. now you've said that I'm worried Ive done something wrong. He's now got his own room under the stairs as he's out grown everything I've previously built for him, so I've insulated and tiled it. He has Coco coir soil, pcv door flaps to keep heat and humidity in, a moonlight bulb and ceramic on habistat control to keep temps 30-31.5c. Mercury vapour bulb inside that I usually keep off and one outside his bedroom for basking between 38-41c. He did have a flood light and uvb desert light tube but I've nowhere at the moment to place it and his flood bulb broke, so back to mercury vapour not my first choice. He has free rein I know it's not ideal but he's had that since he got to 1kg and we are in the UK so not much in heat or space department. He has weeds, mazuri, edible tortoise bedding hay, various veg/greens. He loves his Pak choy, I bath him every other day or at the min he gets a shower multiple times a day. I don't give him high protein foods I keep to the recommended tortoise table diet. Should I be cutting his food down? He gets fresh every morning and night but they're there for him to pick at as and when he chooses. He's quite active, if we are doing something he has to be there to see what your doing.
The 2 pictures attached are from the 18th December, just finished his new bedroom. In his previous enclosure I was able to meet the recommended 80% + humidity but since this one I've been hitting 70% or less but he doesn't seem happy with it above 60.

Don't be concerned. Looks like you're doing a great job. It is fast growth, but not unusually fast for a well-taken-care-of sulcata. I think @Tom misread your post the way your wrote out 1 year and 7 months. A 19 month old sulcata can certainly be around 10 lbs. Good job!

Hello ? I love his sign on the second picture.and so appropriate. My tort doesn't like fancy stuff either.? Angus is adorable ? my little guy must have learned his lesson the first time he flashed me cause he's never done it again in my sight. I was so frightened I stuck his bottom under cool water to make sure his innards went back where they belonged. Yes! I was scarred for life.?

Its so scary when it first happens, we both panicked thinking it was his bowel or something. Yeah I'm not surprised he's not whipped it out again Infront of you lmao I squeal when I get up to my never regions at the swimming baths hahaha ?

The sign was my partner's doing and very fitting. He was after teenage mutant ninja turtles wallpaper for his room but thankfully he couldn't find a decent one haha.

I didn't misread it. My sulcatas under ideal conditions with a varied diet hit about 1000 grams at 12 months, and by 19 months they are in the neighborhood 2000-2200. A huge fast grower might be near 2500. Even Dean didn't get them to grow THAT fast. My largest Sudans were hitting 3000 at about 24 months. We had another member years ago that had one that grew like this, but still very unusual to hit 4400 grams by 19 months.

@Poisondwarf If hydration, temps and the diet are good, I would not worry about this. Its just noteworthy to me. How often do you feed Mazuri? Does your tortoise have access to dog poop or alfalfa or lots of clover?

No access to dog poo, won't eat clover unless I hand feed him a clump but even then it's not much. We used to soak a couple of mazuri pellets and mix it with spring greens and other veg/flowers on a daily basis. He seemed to get fed up and would leave it so now we soak a few pellets and leave um on the side he eats um every now and then but prefers his spring greens and plantain. Recently trying him with alfalfa pellets soaked but not much interest unless I'm hand feeding, which is difficult while trying to keep my fingers lol the tortoise bedding is a big hit tho.
