So I'm using a close chamber concept for my emys and redfoots by placing a green house tent over my enclosure and then per recommendations pouring a gallon of water directly into the substrate once a week. Now my question is a bit different than others that have issues maintaining their humidity levels, my concern is the opposite. My levels hover between 85% and 90% pretty consistently and I have more concerns over misting too much. If my levels are consistent and not dropping below this, is daily misting still required or should I restrain to ensure things aren't too swampy?

With closed chambers misting shouldnt be needed. Also only add more warm water to the substrate when humidity levels start to drop.

I think Barb answered perfectly and I agree with her.

I also have closed chambers for hatchlings. What I'm frustrated with is Acurite temperature gages that stop working after 3 or 4 months. The digital display malfunctions and only partial numbers are visible. Nothing I do can correct this. New batteries or cleaning the contacts have worked. I've gone through a few of these units so far. Anyone else experience this? I'm using those mini digital ones with cords now. Not ideal having cords inside the chamber.

It's always suggested to get a temp gun if you don't have one. They are cheap, last a very long time, if not forever. Yoi point and shoot temps and can check them in any spot in the enclosure and even your torts back. A great tool to have.

I have one too. Love it. I'm constantly comparing all the devices against each other. Every one gives a slightly different reading. Any reliable humidity
device?

I have a digital humidity/temperatures gauge from amazon. I didn't get the one specifically for reptiles I just got one that's for anything basically, and it works great! I would give you a link but I have no idea how on this kindle I am currently using.

I'm running about two dozen of those at any given time. Mine usually last a year or so in a humid chamber. They last for 3-4 years in the drier outdoor night boxes. Sometimes if you pull them out of the enclosure and let them dry out, they will begin to work again.

Another easy solution is to get the ones with a wireless probe. Put the probe inside where you want it, ad the base unit will be outside the enclosure. These cost about $20, but solve the problem of humidity wrecking the display.

Thanks Maro. I'll purchase another one and see how long it lasts. Any other recommendations other than Acurite?

If you don't mind using your phone to view the data check out Sensorpush. There are a few threads that talk about them on this forum.
