we got to 70 yesterday , this guy was out so i brought him in , probably never went too deep , warmed up quicker cause of his size , he may not know , but winter will be back here ..... most likely he'd dig back down and survive the rest of it , but he did well , he's pretty small , surprised i saw him ........ wood turtles and the adult box turtles knew not to come out.......

All those pictures are good but that last one is hilarious 🤣 I love that darling face. It's so expressive 🥰
he is one of my favorites ......i have 7 female wood turtles , all are timid to some degree , this lone male is dog tame .....

You guys sure get crazy temperature fluctuations! And fabulous looking turtles.
the extreme fluctuations are just in the spring......... the turtles warm up at any opportunity they get , and use the ground or the water to keep from freezing ........

you can never see them before they see you ..... a turtles vision is what appears to me to be phenominal ....... i can spook them from inside the house by walking by a window , from outside in the day looking into an unlit room from the outside the room appears pretty dark .............

The same thing happens here with the birds through my front window. It's funny if I want to get a picture of them I still have to sneak up. I stay across the room, set up my camera and let the curtains help hide me when I sneak in. Once in a while I can get a good picture. I did get an outdoor camera that will operate from my phone. It's a feit WiFi outdoor camera. It was about $70. I just have to have time to watch from my phone to get some pictures that I would want.

their vision i'd guess is as good as birds if not better ...... might not be so , but i get the impression they can also see heat , they are experts at finding hot spots ......

I agree. I think all of their other senses are heightened because they lack one. They are deaf.😊

you don't actually believe they are deaf ,do you ? i think a turtle needs all the senses it can muster to be aware of their environment , not like their gonna outrun or out fight stuff that kills them , their only shot is to sense stuff before it senses them ....

sound-reception/Turtles

electrophysiological observations in which it has been found that impulses could be obtained from the auditory nerve of Chrysemys picta for tones between 100 and 1,200 hertz, with highest sensitivity for tones below 500 hertz.

The Frequencies We Can Hear

During a conversation, the fundamental frequency of a typical adult man ranges from 80 to 180 Hz and that of a typical adult woman from 165 to 255 Hz.

wouldn't make sense to develop such a complex organ that is useless , it'd be a tremendous waste of energy ...... blind cave fish do not develop eyes ?

Comparative analysis of the shape and size of the middle ear cavity of turtles reveals no correlation with habitat ecology

I have a deaf brother and so it isn't all that farfetched for me to believe they can be deaf. My brother can feel vibrations from the floor etc. Even someone pounding on the front door he can feel. He can see things coming up from behind him through whatever shadow might be showing. You can't sneak up on my brother 😂 but he's profoundly deaf. I think turtles are probably even more in tune. I have to be really sneaky to watch my Tortoise without him knowing I am. Living with my brother taught me how 😊
