close up sissy on bed.JPGsissy on her pad on bed.JPG Ok here are some pictures of sissy on my bed. I put an old plastic table cloth on the bed and then an old bathroom towl on top of it. I have a fairly small lap so i thought this would give her a little more room to walk around on. She is still staying in her hidy cave almost all the time. I put the thermoterback in and it reads 100 ( thats not under her basking lights....maybe its to hot in there? thats with the light all the way on....should i maybe lower the heating lamp a bit? or i suppose it could just be shes not a very active tort...which would be fine i love my lazy children as much as my active ones but shes not really eating either I went out and picked some grass for her today but she dosnt seem interested in eating that either

Ok guys since i cant seem to find any message that are new im just going to post here again lol I keep seeing messages that look like there from like yesterday or the daybefore but then i see the date and its like from 2014 or the like. now i KNOW there must be away to get to the current posts but until i find it i can t really answer any posts... not that i really have any information i can give anyone else since i bairly know what im doing myself. lol Iv been pretty busy lately cleaning up my wood shop now that my scrolls saws are finally fixed....but that dosnt mean iv been negelting my little animal children! I havent been able to take sissy outside again because it s gotten a bit to chilly here this past week. bu its suppose to get warmer nearer the end of the week...we'll see...but in the mean time she enjoys her soaks and she is no longer staying in her hidy all day... I can hear her digging around in her house and she has several different piles of hills and valleys of bedding all through her house. shes much more active these days....I guess we just didnt have her hidy where she wanted it...lol we had to lift her hidy up to get her last week i think it was when i took her outside for the first time...when we put her back in she went stright to her hidy so i just left it there and figured i put the hidy back when she came out again but since ever since then shes been wandering all around her house pushing her bedding here and then to make like little walls around her when shes not in her hidy and shes starting to eat again and drink as well...guess shejust needed to get her house set up the wayshe likes lol now that iv got bothe the craft room and the wood shop all cleaned up and i can relax, I can get back to actually doing my crafts again!! I just have to make up some kind of secdule and so im working on new things every day and thus get some more new stock made up then i'll be ready to start selling things again...just have to learn how to figure out the shipping so i dont wind up loosing money on the shipping again..... hope every one is doing well !!!

Russian tortoises aren't grass eaters, preferring broad leafed plants and weeds. Her beak needs a trim and she'd do better living in a safe and secure, natural-looking outside habitat.

ok now how do i go about trimming her beak

ok i need to know how to trim her beak, and sort of leaves from outside would be best for her? when i go outside to get food for her I usuly get weeds for the most part, and some of them look like leaves...now i have a couple of climbing rose bushes would those be alright for her? i have a list of plants that are suppose to good for her but as of yet havent found any..... we are planning on bulding her an outside airea when it gets warmer, im not sure how to make her inside house look more nateral...i'll see if i can find some of the plants i can put in small flower pots that are good for her to put in her house...

Hi @Dragon , One way to trim a beak is to have a vet do it. My kids have rock/slate they eat off of, it helps to slowly keep it worn down. In other threads about beaks, it was also mentioned to NOT cut their food up too small. Makes them have to use their feet, ground to help get bites of food.

well thats good to know!!! from now on i'll just cut the leafy green stuff in half ...I have a flat rock i thought about putting in, just the one to see if she will accept that..... she defently didnt like 3 lol i keep the cuttle bone in there too even though so far shes just ignored it...maybe i'll take the food dish out and put the flat rock in to put her food on and when i call the vet i'll ask her if she treats torts...then everybody can go to the vet at the same time. lol both sheba and bonnie are due for there booster shots...can you tell im not crazy about running about town lol

The vet is best or if you have a local reptile shop with experienced handles they may be able to trim claws and beak.
Please read the care sheet to ensure the environment, heat, light, diet, substrate are correct for your tortoise.

I have a Russian also. They have to have a place to go to that's not 100°so yes that's too hot. My little guy hides halfway under plants in his outdoor enclosure. It can be only up to 88° air temperature and it would be way hotter in the sun. If the sun's beating down he hides. Or just lets some of his shell get sunshine underneath the plants .🤗

She was looking at you.🤗 That's how Sapphire and I communicate. We don't talk we read each other's eyes and how he's feeling. He looks happy or sad. Bright eyed and bushy tailed or pale and needs help with more vitamins.. Or just wants to go outside. I hate it when I can't let him because it's too cold.☺️

When you say natural looking outside habitat are you referring to keeping her outdoors full time?
