Hi, all!
My name is Tara and I live in the greater Salt Lake City in Utah.
I have a question about a weed found in my "little" guy, (Sully's his name) outdoor enclosure at our mountain vacation property, (I've included a picture of the weed in question...)

His primary diet at home, consists of LS Mazuri, Aloe Vera, Timothy grass, Dandelion and Spinless Prickly Pear. Sully goes with us when we go up to our mountain property, where we have a lot of plants, grasses and weeds that are not typically found around our home in the valley. This one sprouted up in just 1 week and I just don't know what it is. If it's safe, I'd love for him to give it a try, but if it's toxic at all, I'll pull it out before he even sees it! Anyone recognize what it actually is? Also, what are your suggestions on the best (*FREE) Wild Plant/Weed Identifier apps currently available? Your input and help is very greatly appreciated!! Thank you, everyone! 8316 (1).jpeg

At first look it looks like Common Mullein. They get large fuzzy leaves & throw up a stalk with small flowers. But…urs doesnt look fuzzy enough.

Since you are not sure, id say just remove it & provide known weeds & grass. Best to be safe.

I'm not sure, but that looks like the Indian tobacco that we get here. Indian tobacco is highly toxic. The safe bet is to just pull the weed and feed him known safe items. Here is my test for feeding plants that I'm not 100% sure of: I imagine my tortoise laying there dead and cold with foam coming out of its mouth as if it were poisoned. Then I think: "Is it worth it to take this risk, or should I just get rid of the possible poison and feed known safe items. What is the potential benefit of using this unknown plant?" Its a pretty easy decision.

idk what that is. when you break it off does it have a white sap? I just know white sap is a no-no.
Not sure. We are back in the valley for a few days, so I will have to see when we get back up there. Good to know, though! Thank you!

Well, your response is pretty clear, I will just get rid of the plant, as no plant is worth Sully's life! I just thought I'd any members knew exactly what it was, and it was indeed safe to eat, I'd just leave it... but you're right, I'll just stick to what I know for sure. I appreciate you responding to this thread. Thank you!
