Good morning Super Zola,

The guardian of the treasured Teztez here.

When we told her about your trip to Torquay and the unexplained boat explosion she immediately guessed about your undercover identity and was so thrilled and proud that she is your friend.

She will never say anything to give you away and assures you that you may always rely on her for backup if your operations ever bring you into Wiltshire.

she is also most impressed by your courage in going on the big wheel ride! You are a most amazing tortoise!!

with fondest regards from Ruth and Teztez.
Dear Ruth, admired guardian of the lovely Lady - I greatly appreciate the reaction from Teztez to my news, but obviously I would not involve her in anything nefarious unless there were no other option.
I suppose in some ways I am a very suitable agent - I am familiar with about 40 languages - at least with the word 'tortoise' in them, which can become extremely useful at times. And as Teztez knows, I have various abilities, such as flying and rock climbing, which can help me to get out of tricky situations. But I wouldn't want to risk her lovely neck on my behalf.
I will try to find a photo of me on the big wheel ride - I know my papa took some. I also went on the dodgems once at a fair - it was good fun, but a bit noisy.
Love to you, Ruth and to the noble and treasured Lady

Dear retainer of the great Lady Teztez, I hope all is well with you both. I have had a very mixed day today. We all went to Barnstaple this morning, to get more radicchio for me - my Mama was horrified to find that two of the three that we got very recently, had become all slimy and black inside - this has never happened before. So we had to get more urgently !
Jane, who runs the shop, had ordered some more for me, and wouldn't let my papa pay for them. She was so pleased to see me, and said how much she had been looking forward to it - she held me for a long time ( I think she had deliberately not worn perfume, too ) - sand I met several other customers who came in. There was a Chinese lady with two lovely little children, and I let them stroke me - it was really nice.
So that was a really good experience, and we set off back home. On the way, there are a lot of narrow twisty lanes we have to go down, and there are usually trees and high banks with hedges on top, so you can't see far ahead. My papa was just turning round a corner, when he braked very hard, and the car screeched to a halt. There, just in front of us, was a very large horse, being led by a very elderly lady on a mobility scooter beside it !!
My papa is a good driver with quick reactions, but he was pretty shaken up by it - especially as there was a car following close behind us ! If my papa had been a few moments slower, both cars and the horse lady would have ended up a squishy mess - rather like that radicchio. !! And probably the horse too !!! It was a lovely and very large horse, by the way, but I think it was a bit scared too. Not the lady, though - she just ignored us.
We were very relieved to get back home safely after that, and I was able to enjoy my new radicchio in safety.

Goodness, Zola, what a frightening experience!!

Imagine being in charge of a large horse while on a mobility scooter! that sounds most irresponsible.

I am so glad your Papa had lightning quick reactions or it could have been very nasty indeed.

What a shock. Some of these people seem to have no idea of safety. We see them bowling merrily along busy roads seemingly oblivious to heavy traffic. Do they think they are in tanks or something.

Teztez is very pleased that you have your new supply of radicchio. How strange that it had rotted inside, perhaps some sort of pest had been living inside the leaves. i hope it is most enjoyable. I love to think of your ambassadorial charms being exerted on the other customers; gorgeous lovely Zola!

Teztez had a pleasant day in the garden yesterday. She had her bath in the sunshine and produced nice healthy creamy urates and poos, was lifted out and dried and then walked over the clover patches on the lawn and made her way to her favourite basking spot beside the wall. she was happy all day, listening to the swifts screaming around and moving to warm patches of sunshine and scratching her bottom against an oak post. She then put herself to bed mid afternoon in her hut. She tucks her head under a soft cloth that i have given her and makes it clear that she does not wish to be disturbed.

Now I must go and give her some breakfast. Hope you have a lovely day Dearest Zola from Ruth, guardian of the Lady Teztez xxx

Hello dear guardian of the Remarkable Lady Teztez - we have recovered from our almost-brush-with-death - my Papa says that when you have a mobility scooter on the road, you have to have licence plates on it, anyway, or else it is illegal - I doubt if anyone would have dared to tell that to the lady we met yesterday !!
We had a fairly uneventful day today- there are lots of roses out in the garden, including one which covers one side of my conservatory - my Mama says it is her special favourite, because it has just one layer of flat petals - like the old kinds of rose, and it has white petals with just a tiny bit of pink when the sun shines on them - it is very pretty, with lots of flowers. There are lots of baby tomatoes showing on the plants in my conservatory too.
It is lovely to learn about Teztez's day - especially the bit about her scratching her elegant bottom on a post.
I was quite tired today, but I did have some fun playing with my mama's shoes when she sat with me -and I ate quite a lot of fresh radicchio!
I hope that you will have a good day tomorrow, and that Teztez will get another day in the sun.

How is she doing now? What did the Dr say?
I think you posted this on the wrong thread - the thread you have replied to is on the Similar Threads at the bottom of this - I think it was one from 2010 - it's probably closed now.
Sorry

Dear Angie, thank you for the beautiful pictures, those are such lovely roses, are they called dog roses?
Like pictures in old Rupert books, with elves etc living inside.
I love the cattle as well. Many years ago after the war, my father herded cattle on a farm at Childe Okeford, where I was born.
I think they were Herefords.
Teztez is most delighted that Zola's horticultural projects are doing well.
She is very impressed with the progress of his tomatoes.
She walked down the garden to inspect the potatoes and basked for a while in the sunshine beside them. She thinks I should earth them up, and I must attend to this. Also She has indicated that the beans should be planted as they are outgrowing their pots.
Steve was mowing and hedgecutting on Saturday and Teztez sat under a shady patch of lilac shoots supervising.
He was quite amused by her interest and of course was most careful to respect her lilac patch.
She wasn't at all frightened by the noise, and he watched her carefully. If she had been alarmed of course we would have put her in her hut.
Hoping you have a lovely day in Devon dear Angie, Richard and Zola xxx

Hello Ruth - I think the roses are probably dog roses, but it seemed a bit disrespectful to call them that ! I am sure Teztez enjoyed watching Steve in the garden - I try not to let Zola see Richard working outside like that, as he would be frantically trying to "help" him, and possibly end up being mowed himself. He also tends to get uneasy about some noises - not so much the volume but the pitch - trumpets, flutes, and so on.
It has been a greyish day, so we just went to look at the sea. We go to Roadford Lake, quite near here sometimes, but it has been in the news as a boat sank in it the other day, and two disabled passengers drowned. I keep thinking about it - such an awful thing to happen on a lovely outing for them.
I looked up Childe Okeford - it sounds a nice place. Did you live there long?

Hello Ruth - I hope you andThe Lady are well - and Steve of course. It is really cold here, and also quite windy, so Zola hasn't had his afternoon walk with his dad today. However, several days ago, they went on to the beach during their walk as the tide was out, and came across a group of children, round a very large mound of sand, with a head sticking out of it. As they approached, the seemingly disembodied head moved, turned - and said "Hello Zola" !!!
And then one of the children said "We have just been talking about you !!!" The pile of sand moved, and a lady appeared out of it - it seems she was a teacher from near Nottingham, with her class, but she had met Zola previously, and had been telling her class about him, just when he appeared to meet them. Perfect timing !!
So, of course, Richard told them about Zola, and gave him some food, so they could see his little pink tongue (that always surprises and interests people), and eventually continued his walk. He wasn't very clear what the class was doing in Bude, but it was a really lovely thing to happen - and of course, Zola was delighted to meet them.

Hello my noble friend Zola!
Teztez here,
That was amazing your meeting the class and the teacher- I put it down to your general magnetism.
They must have been delighted to actually meet you in shell, what a lovely experience!
I was sorry to hear about those poor people drowning in the lake, what a sad accident.
I attach a photo that my retainer took this morning. I have been permitted to camp out over the last few warm nights as I made it very clear that I did not wish to go into my hut.
I have chosen to sleep behind the glass of my cold frame area, tucked up under the ivy beside the dry stone wall.
The morning sunshine wakes me up and I can bask peacefully in the warmth.
Clover is growing in the garden again and this is such a delicious plant to eat.
I hope you are Continuing to enjoy the warm weather now the grey windy days have passed.
Much love and fondest best wishes from your loyal friend Teztez ❤ IMG-20220621-WA0002.jpeg

Greetings, dear and treasured friend Teztez - Allow me to offer my humble regards to you and your devoted retainer - I hope all is well. I had a trip to Tavistock yesterday, to accompany my mama to the hospital for her head injections - she tries not to make a fuss when I am watching her, with my papa, but it doesn't get any less painful to have it done - in fact probably it gets worse. Still, it does help the headaches, which is what matters.
It is my 22nd birthday next week -July 8th, so I hope it is a nice day and we can go somewhere special. I won't have a party - my friends are too scattered to invite - but I might get sent some cards.
With love to you both from Zola xxx

Dearest friend Zola, we were worrying about Angie and wondering if she had been having another visit to hospital for her injections. We are so sorry that this is such a painful experience for her, I know your calm presence must be a tremendous comfort to her. You are an incredible tortoise.
This afternoon we had some children's company, this was very exciting for me and I made my way indoors to investigate the source of the noise and general activity. I had my shell stroked and scratched which I enjoy very much and food offerings held in front of my beak by well meaning fingers. There were several shoes which I had to check out to be sure there were no alien tortoises lurking inside. It was really very pleasing to have extra attention and when they had departed I sat with my nose tucked up beside the aga to have a warm snooze .
I do hope Angie soon feels better. My retainer takes arnica before she has any unpleasant experiences like dentist visits or the like. I am sure you are able to help Angie through these traumatic hours.
With fondest regards and love to Richard, Angie and you, Super Zola xxxIMG-20220629-WA0019.jpeg

Dear and most remarkable friend Teztez - Thank you so much for that delightful photo. I was extremely impressed by your kindness and self-control in not approaching that tempting foot either to attack, stroke or otherwise investigate it - a sign of your true nobility !!
Do I observe a growth line around your shell? If so, I expect it is due to all the care from your devoted retainer.
I have some translucency on the points where my shell was split when I was a little baby, but it never seems to grow more now.
I have now got two very small red tomatoes on my plants in my conservatory - and quite a few green ones as well. I have promised my mama she can have the first one on her birthday (which is the same as mine, though with a great many years difference)
With love to you both from Zola xxxxx

We thought the swallows hadn't nested in our car-port this year, until my papa discovered the car covered in bird-poo this morning !!! They may have kept a low profile because of the builders working only a few yards away next door. Anyway, we are very pleased to know they are there, poo and all !!

Dearest Zola,
Teztez is rather anxious, she has been worrying that she doesn't know which day is yours and Angie's birthday.
We want to wish you both a very happy day and hope you have a lovely walk or car ride and delicious things to eat.
love from Lady Teztez and Ruthxxx
