Good evening. I have a black and white Arabian Oasis Tortoise named Giacometti. No I am not shifting you. My problem with him is he is way too FAT. He is eating me out of house and home. What should I do? This is not funny.

Tammy. No it's not funny. This is supposed to be Off Topic Chit Chat so stop talking about your Fat old tortoise and get a life.

I think you need to see someone, but I'm not an expert. Don't wait til they come for you...that's when bad things happen.

PS: you'll know them by their white coats. 😵‍💫

I am not sure that even if they are wearing the white coats, I would be able to recognise the experts. But I will try. And another thing I am beside myself about (so to speak) is that Giacometti keeps eating anything he finds lying loose on the floor of our house. What should I do?

Vaccuum every day, don't let him walk the floors unattended. That's all I can think of to do.

I feel that people here are wondering why I don't become a member of the tortoise forum. I am here six plus years. As soon as I can I am going to, and I will be proud and happy, as this is a great site in a lot of ways.

Giacometti needs a good talking to (and YOU need someone to talk to besides yourself!!).
Lol. I know, Yvonne. I am just a cranky old crone with serious insomnia. Giacometti keeps me occupied!

When I ask my friend what is a black and white arabian oasis tortoise all he comes up with is arabian horses. Not often he gets stumped. How 'bout some pictures of this beast?

Is the tortoise allowed to graze? I find that relieves quite a bit of the eating out of house and home.

It's quite unusual for a tortoise to get fat. This tells me his enclosure isn't big enough. Not enough exercise. Have you tried getting him to use a hamster wheel?

I took the original OP post as a joke and her being trapped within her own head and imagination.
Am I wrong?

Thank you for your concern and kind suggestions re the hamster wheel. Design wise, I think a Tortoise Treadmill would work better but cannot find any here in Jamaica for some strange reason. I get these creasy faces when I ask. My lawn is grass.

Actually, I've never once wondered that. I'm just glad you're here, sleep-deprived or not! :)

As for your Arabian Oasis tortoise, I truly believe he needs a friend. Someone from a different locale and climate, so there's plenty to talk about.

I know! How about an Arctic Floe tortoise? They are very rare, but a woman of your talents should be able to pull it off.

They are white, by the way...that's why they are so rare.

An Arctic Floe Tortoise! I have certainly heard of their existence, but would be mindful of the "never be kept in pairs" rule. And my Giacometti already has a pretty constant companion, being my automatic self charging self running vacuum cleaner, Sucker. Sucker does a great job cleaning up, and keeping Giacometti occupied, in more ways than one, if you get my drift.

Sometimes things here can get a bit heavy. It's therapeutic to now and then try to create a bit of light humour. Even if it's rather weird. Did I ever tell you guys how much I appreciate this forum and all of you? Well, it's a lot!

Guys,
LOL....Nothing is really wrong with our friend(s) Tammy.

Tammy just likes to have a little fun.....and maybe pull a leg while doing it. Lighten up.. .she's as well-wrapped as I am.

That might not be a good thing....for Tammy! LOL

Does make it hard to discern a real issue though. I'd suggest looking to see what native plants would be good for him.
There has to be lots of free stuff growing there....
