Hey, new to the forum and still in the research stage of owning a tortoise.

I live in Tennessee which is usually pretty warm but we do get cold winters, and decently high humidity.

I’m wondering if there are any tortoise breeds that would do well in an outdoor enclosure year round?

Your area will be good for most species during the warmer time of year, but either a tropical species, or a temperate species that brumates will have to be brought inside during the colder weather.

This being the case, a smaller species will be much easier to house and work with. I would suggest any of the Testudo, or any of the stars, or pancakes. I would stay away from sulcatas, leopards, redfoots, manouria, and either of the island giants.
