Fit time owner of Hermanns Tortoise. Just introducing myself.
The guy I’m buying is already two years old but I’m afraid he is showing signs of pyramiding. I’m a little intimidated about how to stop it from continuing. Considering I live in Canada I’m assuming the main contributing factor is low humidity 5A745EA1-3BC8-4DD6-AC24-75BC9963032E.jpeg

Hello and Welcome. He does have some pyramiding not too bad. When he is inside, get the humidity up and don't use a mercury vapor bulb and you should be able to get too stop

The tap water where I live is high in iron. (It makes rust coloured stains in our bathtub). We drink it but I’m wondering if it is safe for the tortoise to bathe/drink/use?

If you & your family drink the water, it’s also safe for your tortoise.

Welcome, a covered enclosure and 80% humidity should slow down the pyramiding. If you are concerned about the water, you could always buy a Brita filter. But I agree with Maro2Bear.
I live in Florida and our well water is terrible. We won't drink it so our sulcata doesn't drink it either. I bought a lot of bottled water when Opo was young so he could soak. I rely on 2 rain barrels and natural rain fall now.
