Exiting time in my household today!
I have a 2 year old Red Foot tortoise who is about 5” long. I have always thought it was a girl based on looks, but now I am seeing more male like characteristics as he grows!

1.) plastron changes (spurs)
2.) concave area down by the tail
3.) acting dominate (marching)
4.) longer tail now curving to the side
5.) bigger than average (males are bigger than females generally I hear)

I don't know RFs well enough to give useful input when they are this size. I can easily tell on the adults and babies all look female, but I don't have enough of a frame of reference to catch the hints on the juveniles with this species.

Why are you so obsessed with figuring out your tortoise's sex? Are you hoping to breed them and want to get another one of the opposite sex?

If so, just buy another one of known sex and sure as heck, yours will grow up to be the same sex as the one you bought to breed with it. It's Murphy's Law.

Seriously, though, your tortoise is still very young to be able to accurately determine the sex. If I had to guess today, I would say it looks as though it is developing some male characteristics, but I caution you that these young tortoises can go through different stages of development and often prove one's predictions to be incorrect.
