I've have my two little tortoises for 1 1/2 months now. It's amazing how much I worried about these two. My husband surprised me for Valentine's day with them. I know he didn't ask all the important questions and they most likely were started all wrong. But thanks to another member posting the raised garden with green house. I have perfect temps and humidity.

So anyway, I have an 4x8 foot enclosure with separate 4x4 spaces for each tortoise. It's working out great.

Well first little Bumblebee is my leopard tortoise Bumble started out at 30g at 1 3/4 inch. I was told they hatched later last year. Ya that doesn't tell me much. Today little Bumblebee weights 72 grams. Bumblebee has a big appetite.

Now Optimus Prime the sulcata, same thing late 2022. Optimus Prime started out at 40g at 2 1/8". Now Optimus had me worried as his weekly weight gains were not as much as Bumblebee. Last week Optimus Prime passed some really big urates. Freaked me out. She even had some bruising from it. I started adding some mineral oil to her food just in case. I found some old threads where Yvonne suggested it. Thanks a ton for that.

So now with trauma of passing urates was over and done with, Optimus Prime decided that it was time to take a jump in weight. He went from 45g last week to 59 today. Previously all he gained was 1-2 grams a week. I was so happy to see that jump. Maybe now I can breath.

Pic of Optimus Prime for tax😍

Those urates tell a story about what this tortoises life was like BEFORE you got it. Your husband likely saved its life when he bought it for you. Congrats on the weight gain! That means you are doing a great job!

Thank you, it would not have been possible without this forum.

That may be true, but it would also not have been possible if you didn't learn the good stuff and do the work that you've done. I love this forum too, but YOU made this happen. People like you are the reason I endure the few people who are the opposite of you. It is truly heart warming when we can help someone have a healthy tortoise, and become a happy tortoise keeper. Your success is a big part of my reward for the time I spend here. Me learning new stuff is the other reward. Thank you for sharing.
