I wanted to inform everyone about my heartbreaking experience with TortoiseTown. I ordered my hatchling yellow foot two weeks ago and he arrived very ill - I have just spent 3 hours and $100 at the vet. My baby Kip's eyes are swollen shut and he has an upper respiratory infection. He's feeling very yucky and I am very grateful to have been given a sick tortoise - because I know this guy will now be safe in my care ... anyone else want to share bad experiences like mine? Also please keep my sweet Kip in your thoughts as he recovers

Tortoise Town is awful! My experience is a heart breaking story....when talking with Tortoise Town he actually said "I would never buy a hatchling, about 20-25°/° die within 6 months"...so, basically a quarter of all the various species of hatchling Tortoises they sell die!!!! What the He**? We are talking about precious defenseless hatchlings not a plastic product...how can this be ok? My advice....NEVER buy from them!

I'm so sorry to hear about Kip! He is very lucky to have you to nurse him back to good health:)
Because I'm new at tort keeping, I bought my RT from Petsmart. His eyes were shut and he was undernourished. I suspect the lighting was too bright as they house the torts in a tiny aquarium and feed them an inadequate diet. So, so heartbreaking. He is now thriving and a big part of that is because I was lucky enough to find this site and be able to ask questions and receive good suggestions from other animal lovers with more experience. Wish you and Kip the best:)

I was going to buy a Hermann tortoise off of tortoise town but after reading this I will not be getting a tortoise off tortoise town anything soon. I hope all your torts have a healthy long life!

Keep looking for a tortoise if you want one. Captive bred are the best!

Please, please don't buy from them, my little Luna passed away Monday 7/31. My summer helper purchased her leapard hatchling their last year and she passed away ,4 months later...with the exact same symptoms and issues. Needless to say I didn't know that her little one was purchased at Tortoise Town as well.

I bought my Chele from tortoise town. Hatched on march 2nd, and two days ago still weighed in at 35g. He has been hovering between the same 2-3g weight for a couple months. Not acting sickly or anything, just wont grow.
The other hatchling i bought along with him i gave to a friend of mine along with some supplies and all of the advice i have recieved her on TF but that little one did not make it.

That's what happened at first with Luna, she just didn't gain weight, or grow, and then the last month started failing

I so wish I would've known this before I ever bought from them, we spent over $300 on a Hermann's tortoise that was supposed to be a year old when in reality I don't think he could've been anything more than a hatchling, whats worse is that he died of a parasite only a month after we got him. I don't regret that month at all but I do feel like they prey on new tortoise owners a little bit.

At least my poor baby is in a better place now I suppose, Rest in Peace Dante, Mummy loves you still xxx

I rec'd a sulcata from tortoise town on July 22 and this is what it's shell looked like. It's Aug 18 and my poor thing is absolutely SICK. The Vet said it is a RI and a vitamin deficiency. I asked her what is something I did after I had showed her all my food and pictures of my habitat and she said no this baby was sick before you even got it. Have another Vet visit tomorrow to see if the antibiotics are working if not then they are talking the worst

Geez, that guy does not look good.

Were the scutes shriveled like that when it arrived? What is the humidity level in it's habitat?

I think a comment is in order here. Tortoise Town is using copyrighted Redfoot photos from my website for advertising and sales on their website. It would be very safe to say that you may not get what you think you are buying from them. They are marketing my tortoise on www.tortoisetown.com like they are the ones you will purchase from them. They've even had a "Facebook Give Away" using my hatchling's photo, not once but twice.

I sent the following email to Tortoise Town asking them firmly to take my photos down and stated that I own the copyright and still own that tortoise. They received and responded to my email more than 3 months ago but continue to use my photos to sell their Redfoot tortoises. This is a deceptive and unethical advertising practice. This information should be known by potential Tortoise Town customers.

Augh. This scares me. This is where we got our little Yellow Foot. We have had him about a month. He seems to be ok for now, but not as active in his tank and I would have though he would be. I think I’m going to bring him to the Vet to be checked out
