This is Tiki, our new friend!
A new friend?! OMG that’s awesome!! Congratulations and welcome to the family, Tiki! Now I don’t know if that was Ducky in the other picture I commented on or not. Such a cute face on Tiki. Did you convert the bottom “bunk” into another enclosure? Is it known if Tiki is male or female?

Hello! Yes the other was Ducky girl.. this is a 4 year old male we adopted from someone on the site. We haven't converted the bottom bunk and he is separate. We completed the outdoor enclosure for the most part and he loves that. All we have to do is add the walls around it so he can't see out. I never realized how small Ducky was until we got him. I guess that's the difference between wild caught and a life long pet. I wonder though if Tiki is actually a boy. The previous owner said they saw his male parts but his bottom shell is flat like a female and he is big and not done growing... but if they saw the thing its hard to mistake that. What do you think?

That’s so cool that you were able to take Tiki in. If the previous owner saw his boy bits, then I would go with that. How much does Tiki weigh? Dozer‘s shell doesn’t show any signs of being concave yet, but he’s definitely a boy and isn‘t afraid to remind me…every day ?. The only physical trait dozer has is a really fat tail. It’s very wide at the base, but so far it isn’t very long. Is Tiki‘s tail long or thick at the base? Boy torts have a tendency of showing their bits during a warm soak. If you try soaking him in a container that is somewhat see through you might be able to see for yourself. I have seen a couple posts that female torts can show their bits too and they look fairly similar, just smaller and not near as long. It’s very uncommon for females to flash though. Maybe start a thread with some good pics of his shell and tail and you can probably get confirmation.

See... this is why I voted for you to be a moderator.... ? he has a thick, longer tail. I didn't know the concave thing wasn't immediate, so that could explain it. He's about a pound and Ducky is half a pound...
And it's just like a boy to leave nothing to the imagination..?

My guess is that Tiki is just too young yet to show the physical male traits on his shell. Dozer weighs 1 1/2 pounds, so I too am curious as to when I’ll start noticing his plastron get more concave. And holy crap, that is a big difference between the weight of Ducky and Tiki. Ducky could very well still have some growing to do, and who knows, maybe she’s a he?! Time will tell! Thanks for your vote of confidence on the moderator thing. I don’t know that I have the knowledge level yet that a moderator should have, but either way, I’ll continue to share the things I do know. I’m hoping in another couple of weeks once I’m more settled into the new job (just started on Tuesday) that I can be more active on here again.
