Ducky normally runs around the enclosure but this is the first time I saw her trying to climb the walls.. Silly Ducky... I think the Vampire Ducky picture is still one of my favorites..

Dozer and I are doing well. I haven’t been on the forum quite as much the last few weeks because I just went through a job change. Same company, just a different position. It’s been a little stressful, but each day gets better. I don’t really have any new pics to show of Dozer since my fall enclosure pics. I had planned on taking some new pics today, but he got up on the wrong side of the bed and was best to be left alone lol.

There’s many reasons a tortoise could try to escape their enclosure. Russian’s in particular are very good escape artists and climbers. If you recently got your tortoise, they could be trying to escape to get back “home”. In some cases tortoises try to escape their enclosure because it doesn’t have the proper conditions. It could be too hot, too cold or in a lot of cases, the enclosure is simply too small. Although Russians are a small species, they still need lots of room to roam. A full grown Russian should be in an 8ft x 4ft enclosure or even larger if possible. If the tortoises is housed outside, then much larger is recommended. You should never let your tortoise roam around on the floor. The temperature is too cool and there’s too many hazards. We’ve seen way too many sad endings with tortoises who were allowed to roam around on the floor. If you’d like, start a new thread with more details about what species of tortoise you have and the enclosure they live in and we can help figure out if there’s a reason your tortoise is climbing the walls or if he’s just an adventurous little guy. ?
