About what age should you be able to tell the difference?
Hello, and thanks! I have two Sonoran desert tortoises and they're now about 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 years old, so they should be old enough for me to tell their ages and determine if I'll need to split them up. Does this work for desert tortoises as well? Haven't had a chance to go out and check them yet, but the little buggers have figured out how to scale the brick wall around their enclosure and I'll be out there this evening building an overhanging lip. Thanks!A female tortoise has a wider mid body to accommodate egg bearing in the future. A male tortoise body is more narrow. The bottom FEMALE plastron is curved like a slight V, And the male tortoise bottom of the plastron is curved like a slight C.
