Lovely tortoise, I think it is a male. The front finger nails appear to be long. Male tortoise have long nails to court females by stimulating them with the nails. Check the sex again in about one years old. My male displayed male sex organs when we held it while showering / cleaning it under warm water (under a water faucet). My veterinarian doctor confirmed the sex of my tortoise by pictures via email.

I like your photography. Nice colors!

Where did you buy your Eastern hermann, it looks perfect? We had issues with Tortoise Town, missing vitamins with our first hermann purchase. Secondly, Garden State Tortoise; stated my one year's old tortoise was 100% female when we discovered it was 100% male by a veterinarian three months later. We wanted to breed the tortoises later and Garden State Tortoise said to buy a baby male tortoise, but requested a female tortoise. Now we have two males and unable to breed them. I protested the American Express payment and received a full refund: chargeback. Garden State Tortoise attempted to have us return our second tortoise: 4 months old hermann after we were emotionally attached to it and cared for it. American Express did not require us to return the baby hermann and received a full refund. Additionally, I believe Garden State Tortoise wanted to keep all female tortoises to breed them for profit.

I got the tort baby from southern reptiles. They were unable to tell the gender because it is too young to call. It takes couple years until you can really call the gender.

Our oldest tortoise purchased in January was said to be a female 100%, but purchased as a male when it was an hatchling from Tortoise Town. Later in August, Garden State Tortoise (the gentleman said he had 30 years of experience) said I would need to buy a male because he said I have female already, if I wish to breed them. Surprisingly, in November the oldest tortoise displayed a male sex organ. We was disappointed.

Thanks, I will check Southern reptiles.
