@JWineastKY well it's not a new scute, just the expanding growth of the existing scutes. if you look you can see the how the pattern grows, the directions of expansion, and how uniform it is. While all living things grow in the same way, chelonian offer you a very clear growth history that imo is a marvel of mathematics and life.
