How long are these supposed to be?
I'll try to keep it brief.
Hubby and I have been married 5 years, we're expecting our first child which was a big surprise to us. Oops!
Anyhow, over the last 5 years we've lived in Canada and NY before moving back to my home state of Florida. My parents have a larger house on acreage, so when we first moved back we stayed with them with the plan it was temporary. BUT, they kicked up such a fuss when we put an offer in on a house that it's become at least a semi-permanent thing. Let's see if they're still singing that tune when the grandbaby shows up!
Anyhow, I've kept pets most of my life. For awhile I was a show breeder of rabbits, way back when. But, then my focus changed more to sheltering and rescue and I've volunteered either at shelters or as a foster for probably most of the last 12 years. I am on hiatus at the moment because every few years I just need a break from the emotional aspect of it all. I'm not vegetarian or vegan though and definitely do not identify with the animal rights movement. I hate all the crappy 'ban everything' legislation they keep trying to sneak on the books under the guise of improved conditions for animals. But, I think everyone hates that, unless they just don't understand it.
I'm passionate about buying captive bred whenever possible, but can acknowledge that the pro's need to start with wild caught to get to the point where there are captive bred one's available. I dislike the mass importing of common species, it drives the price down for the hobby breeder and enables too much impulsive buying.
I'm probably too opinionated.. lol.. It always gets me in trouble..
Our menagerie at the moment consists of 4 dogs, 4 cats (1 tame, 3 semi-feral) chickens, turkeys, a redfoot tortoise and 29 tarantulas. I'm a bit of a nutrition nut when it comes to the pets, the dogs and cats are on a raw diet and the poultry is all free range. I wish I was half as fussy about what I ate! But, that's another story.
Anyhow, that's pretty much everything. I'm looking to add another tort or two to the family, but, that's about it at this time. Okay, maybe more turkeys..
