    Humidity in Terrarium

Hi TechnoCheese, Ok sounds good! Thank you so much! I just went in and sprayed a lot of water on the substrate, there’s a lot of moisture on the bottom but hopefully by spraying there will be more on top, and if need be I will dump the water around. Thank you for the help!

    Humidity in Terrarium

Hi TechnoCheese, The substrate inside is coconut coir and there is some special calcium sand mixed in but not a lot. There is a thick layer of coir on the bottom, some calcium sand in the middle (not a lot just what I couldn’t remove) and then a layer of coconut coir on the top. It is...

    Humidity in Terrarium

Hi Tortoise Forum, My Russian Tortoise Reed is currently living in a 40 gallon terrarium as we are in the process of building him an outside habitat. For now, I take him outside for at least and hour a day to make sure he has time to walk around, explore, and graze on grass and dandelions...

    Shell Rot, Shedding, or Normal?

Hi RosemaryDW, This makes sense, since with his previous owner he lived outside with a lot of other tortoises. Glad I do not have to worry, thank you so much!

    Shell Rot, Shedding, or Normal?

Hi all, I have had my 15 year old male Russian Tortoise Reed for about a month, and noticed his shell looking a little odd. When I got him his shell looked like this, and it hasn’t changed, but I just wanted to check that everything is normal. The guy we got him from said he was totally...

    White Patch on Arm

Hi TechnoCheese, Yes for my substrate I used a combination of sand and coconut coir, but the sand appears to be on the top because as Reed digs around, he brings the sand on the top. I will be adding coconut coir to the top so that he has a better substrate to walk around on and replacing all...

    White Patch on Arm

*bump* if anyone knows how to treat a scratch on a tortoises arm, if there’s an ointment or cream I should rub on the raw skin so that it heals up nicely, or if it will regrow normally on it’s own. He is still active, healthy, and walking around completely normally, just want to know if there is...

    White Patch on Arm

Hi Yvonne G, I know nothing is chewing on his arms because he sleeps inside and I watch him constantly whenever I take him outside, so I am thinking he might’ve brushed up against something and that gave him the scratch? I’m not sure how it happened, or if there’s a special way to treat it.

    White Patch on Arm

Yes, I will attach a picture. He is only 6 inches and sleeps inside the terrarium, I take him outside everyday for at least an hour or more and he walks around a lot outside. In the terrarium he just likes to dig and bask on the basking rock or hide in his log. I attached some photos of the...

    White Patch on Arm

Hi Tortoise Forum, One day I noticed that my 15 year old male Russian Tortoise named Reed had a large white patch on his left arm. His scales are missing from the spot as well. Not sure what happened, he never got into any accidents or got hurt. He can walk normally and he doesn’t seem to be...
