Thanks for your reply Tom. I do spray the soil down daily, but the heat tends to still cause some drying and mess. When my tort was abit younger I’d make sure the soil was properly soaked in places, but this has caused the viv to expand and look tatty. I really just need a temporary solution...
Hello! Hoping somebody can give me abit of advise.
My 5 year old leopard tort has always had coconut coir as a big substrate. I’m currently in the process of selling my flat (mostly as my tort is getting big and I want to create an outdoor area for him so I’m looking at a house with a garden)...
He’s not this big atm he’s weighing around 600g and still living in a large indoor vivarium. Within the next few years I’ll be moving him into something similar as you’ve pictured above!
atm he needs a tortoise hide or cave to go into his viv,and he has out grown anything that can be shop...
Hello everyone!
I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
my leopard tortoise is getting to for this hide and I can’t find any now big enough on the market he will fit.
I’m looking to make my own out of wood, but I’m worried on the types of wood I can and can’t use and if it...
The pet store advised - all the plants they had available were able to go into a viv, maybe just didn’t specify with what reptile. I still haven’t put this plant in as I’m unsure if it’s safe. Shame really, I think it would look good and work well.
You’re probably right! The pet store I brought this from had a list of plants ‘mixed ferns’ was on there, but the plants themselves were mixed up under uv lights - unlabelled and didn’t specify what they were, hence why I’ve ended up in this situation...
Awesome! Thanks for that - at least that’s one of the plants sorted. The petshop is very good and unlikely to sell anything harmful to torts, just want to make sure they are safe in the viv.
generally my tort only eats the food in his bowl, however if I’m late feeding him he will go on munching...
Hello! I’m from the UK. I brought about 6 plants from Internet Reptile (local pet store and big online) the others I know are fine in the enclosure, but these I’m unsure of? I can’t quite identify them so thought I’d come and ask you lovely people! I put afew pics at different angles. Really...
Thanks Lyn, I was going to a garden centre today to see if they have spider plants and Boston ferns or a few other things able to go into the enclosure. Wow a year?! It’s going to look boring in the enclosure for a while!, unless I can find somewhere else to source these plants...
Thanks for your advice!, I’ve set up the new viv last night how you suggested, going to get a basking lamp later on today. I’ve had 2 torts in the past but never one as confident as this, he never hides in his shell, and runs around eating a lot. He seems very happy and is really enjoying his...
Also I have read the care sheet, just noticed it mentioned orchid bark.. didn’t know if knowledge had moved on over a few years and favoured the bark instead
