Hello!
Can someone help me identify what this is? Is this a scale falling off his face? Or is this a vet emergency issue? Eating and drinking good! Just looks like a scale that’s coming off his face but I’m not too sure if this is normal for the cheek area? Thanks!
It’s the 2 front, left and right scutes. I tried getting a good picture of it.. it’s hard! (Lol) but they appear sunken in. So instead of pyramiding, they are going in? But it doesn’t look major. Thank you! I take pride in making sure my torts are well off!
Hi!
I just noticed my 8 month old Greek tortoise has these 2 “sunken” in scutes on his shell. Is this something to be worried about or is this part of the normal growth? Thanks!
and yes, husbandry is perfect. He has a 4X6 enclosure.. humidity at 75% (for winter times). Cool spot at 80 degrees...
Okay thank you! Everything I have is correct. Soaking 3-4 times a week right now and eating nothing but greens! Just wanted to make sure nothing bad is happening so I can take him to the vet etc! Thanks everyone for the help!
Hi everyone. Just a quick question. I have a 8mo old Greek tortoise and he is healthy as can be, although, this morning I noticed this on his shell scutes. They’re scutes but clear? Is this an early sign of MBD??? Or is this normal for growing scutes on a tortoise? They are clear.
thanks!
No problem. I will try to find some answers because my baby Greek is having the same thing happen! I’m assuming it’s just the scutes growing but I’ll let you know what I find out
Hi! So my baby Greek (8-9mo old) has the same thing happening around his side scutes. It looks like a clear shell is growing and I’m panicking thinking it could be MBD or early signs of it, although my husbandry is outstanding and I give him his D3 + cal every day. Do you know if this is normal...

Hi everyone,
I just discovered ants in my outdoor tortoise table... ahhhhggggg. I hate ants and they were all in the soil/food.
what if a different substrate I can use that won’t attract ants like soil/eco earth will?
I was thinking something like chips...or cypress mulch?
Thanks!

Sorry - I didn’t make that clear. I have a hatchling Greek right now as well the rescued adult Russian tortoise (pictured above) - I was just referencing it for size because the Russian is much larger than even a hatchling, so I assumed he was 5+ years old! Thanks again for the help
thank you! I have a hatchling Greek right now and I was assuming more than 5 years because of his shell.... he was in such a tiny area at the pet store and as much as I hate buying from stores like that... I couldn’t let this guy sit in a tiny 10 gal tank. I’ll agree that I think he’s probably...
