    getting ready for winter

I am sure some more experienced keepers will reply soon. Just as a beginner, I would say that you need much more plant cover and at least two hiding places for your tort. It is also generally recommended to have two soaking areas. Your heater being suitable very much depends on the average...

http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.79895/ The care sheet was composed by an EXTREMELY knowledgeable and experienced keeper. I am sure some Sulcata keepers will jump in soon, but for now that link will give you the basics. :)

    Redfoot Plastron Concern

The imperfection on the higher left and along the center were there before he was shipped, which is why I wasn't sure if it was shell rot or something else. My camera is just significantly better than the breeder's which shows more detail. What should I do if it might be the beginning of shell...

My new guy needs a name!

I am NOT 100% sure, but I think I am going to call him Wallace! After Albert Russell Wallace who collaborated with Charles Darwin.

    Redfoot Plastron Concern

Hello All! Wallace is my Redfoot. He hatched in the beginning of April 2015. I have a concern about his plastron. The first picture is his plastron while he was still at the breeder's ~September 12. The second is a picture I took last week. Are the imperfections/creases normal? They do not feel...

    Hatchling Redfoot Weight Concern

Thank you so much for your compliments! For now I will weigh him weekly just to keep an eye out for any drastic weight loss, as I am a very new keeper. Once I feel confident that I have his enclosure well figured out and that he has adjusted well, I will relax a bit and weigh him and measure him...

Help! He will only eat outside

His weight fluctuates, but today he was at 85g! He is finally going crazy for things other than clover. He munches on the plants in his tank, devours endive and dandelion greens.

    Help (only eats bananas)

Endive and dandelion greens are what my guy likes best for grocery store greens. He is a sucker for clover if you have any available near you. I'm with the others, time for some tough love!

Help! He will only eat outside

I have a 10.0 UV strip light and a 150Watt CHE that is on a thermostat. I had the CHE and the thermostat reader on one side of his 40 gallon tank. Although it was holding the temps on that side in the high 80s, the other end was VERY low, under 80. That is where he was spending the most time...
