The vet in an email said that it was to "start" treatment on the parasites. This makes me wonder how much medication it would require.

Sadly this is the best vet in my area :( I understand your concern if the medication killing off the good bacteria. You share a valid opinion that I agree with. I will ask my vet the specific details of these parasites.

Clare, that tortoise looks like it has some pyramiding. You should try not to feed it as much protein and give the tortoise more calcium. The tort does look cute though :)
