I would like to know what other people, that have large sulcatas, use for their water source. I was thinking of a hanging dog bowl...??? Need something bulldozer proof lol.

I use this design of bowl for them. walkerdrinking.jpg They may move them around and stick a dirty foot in them but never had one get turned over. this particular bowl holds about 3/4 gallons but they come in different sizes and they can be made of different materials, it's the shape that counts.

I use a 16" plastic plant saucer for Chuck's water dish. He has been too big to soak in it for a couple of years now, but can still stand in it an drink when he wants. He has never turned it over. It also accommodates 4 or 5 small birds. I have actually seen birds perched on the rim watching Chuck take a drink, but haven't had my camera handy.

I use pizza dough trays. They have them at any pizza place. They are about 32x24 and 3" deep. I sink them into the ground and they work perfectly. I use them for all my larger species.

I found a child's sand box at a garage sale that I am going to try for my leopard that I will sink into the ground. More of a swimming pool than water dish, but our summers are dry. It is a turtle, so too cute. My other pen I made, well my husband made for me, a cement pond.

I use a cement mixing tub. I out dirt in it and made it to the depth I wanted using te dirt, then I used pond liner I had left from my pond build. Made it slope on for all sides so my guys can fit in it. It's 3 foot by 2 foot. Wen my guys get bigger I'll probably make a cement one.

Thanks guys. I have the perfect water drinking/soaking tub outside (its literally the bottom of a stand up shower with a plug/drain) but I meant for "INSIDE".....(so I can't sink it into the ground)... I'm thinking the plant saucer might work best (dizisdalife)... but I swear I can see my Bam Bam spilling it over lol....or maybe what Turtules-Len suggested...I don't know if it'll work!!!! But I'll try!!!

So I must ask for clarity, how big is this tortoise that you keep it inside? And do you have substrate in with it? What type of flooring is the habitat? Wood? Is it elevated, or does it sit on the ground,( like a large box in the garage)? Sorry to have misunderstood your original question. Answer these and I'll be better able to help.

I got some rubber tubs shaped like a bowl at the feed store. I think they are 15 gallons? I also set one under an outdoor faucet and put a timer on it so it runs for 5 minutes every 6 hours. Always fresh water!

For inside, I like the big terra cotta plant saucers. I prefer the painted ones. These things have enough weight that usually no tortoise will tip them over. I also like that I can find various sizes, depths, and even a few shapes. I get mine at our local Earl May's garden center.

Ok great!! I just needed some suggestions...to figure what I should try. Thank you!!:)
To answer your question Cowboy Ken, I had a 12 by 16 house built with a 12ft by 6ft addition. I use cypress bedding. And my big guy is 25in. If I were to bury a bowl into the cypress (which I kind of have been doing) he'll just trample over/in it then its immediately full of cypress lol.

I recently got a Manna Pro feeding bowl at Walmart . Its made out of recycle tires. I originally wanted another large (20inch) plastic plant saucer to replace my cracked one (lasted two years), but no hardware store near me had them. SOO glad I found this instead! very durable for large Sulcatas. I've noticed its high enough to not spill water when my Patita walks near it/ slams into it, but still low enough for him to dunk his head to drink water.

I use one of those gravity water dishes. My tortoise is big enough he can reach in the bowl and get a drink.029695244964C.jpg

Buy a water heater plate, it basically looks like a saucer but you can get it in different sizes bigger than the one you have is very Cheap and durable!
Your tort can go inside and drink and be happy
