What is the best way to keep humidity up? I have a closed chamber enclosure but when I close it all the way up, the humidity stays up but the temps get kind of high too. Around 100-110 on the hot side. Is that too high? The low side is at 70-80. What should the temps be at for a Sulcata 3 month old. And how long is humidity an issue?

Can you post a picture of your set up? It'll make it much easier for us to help you if we can see what you have going on. What are your four temps (Basking, warm side, cool side and night)? Temps should be no lower than 80 at anytime.

The basking spot will be higher. If you can raise the basking light a little and get the hot side to 95-100. However, your 100-110 isn't all that bad.

110-70 in a closed chamber? That doesn't sound right. Can we see a pic?

If you are overheating your enclosure, you will need to use a smaller wattage bulb, or if using a regular incandescent, you can use a rheostat to literally dial it down a bit.

A very warm welcome to the forum.

Reading care sheets and threads would help you, and keep asking questions.

It says 99 now with a 40% humidity. Under the basking is 105. Cool side is at 84. The night goes to 70-75. But everything is turned off right now. Size is 3ft by 4ft. I use a CHE (closest one), a mercury vapor UV (on left), and a regular heat light for the basking spot. Just got the fogger to hopefully bring up the humidity. Right now Sheldon is buroughed right under the temp gauge in the corner. Which is his favorite spot to sleep. If anybody sees anything wrong, let me know please. Sheldon is doing great and healthy. Just want to keep it that way. Thanks once again for taking time to help a newbie!!

You might want to space your lights and che apart:) also try sealing your "closed chamber" better:)

Nice setup. I like that it has lots of room for a baby. The CHE is for ambient and night heat (other lamps turned off). It should be attached to a thermostat. A simple on/off type will do the job. Like Tom suggested, you might need to use a lower wattage on the MVB or heat lamp to get the daytime heat at the right temp. Seal the chamber better to hold in the humidity. A fogger might help, I never used one so can't really say for sure. Even with a fogger a better seal would help stabilize the humidity. Keep the substrate damp. You may need to seal the wood or put down a plastic sheet under it. Some members have used a shower curtain for this or have put down tile to protect the wood enclosure. It's a bit of trial and error, but keep working at it and you will get the results you are after.

Got a 1 more question than I will leave u alone, but if Sheldon is getting 1-2 hours at least a day outside in the sun, do I not need the MVB light on? I just wanted to make sure I read that right on the spreadsheet.

That is correct. You can save the MVB for winter.

Keep an eye on temps without this bulb running though.

70-75 is too cold at night. Shoot for 80.

Thanks!! I got the CHB for night right now. It stays around 80. Thanks once again.
