Hey all :)

Has anyone tried using these yellow sticky traps for fungas gnats?

http://www.planetnatural.com/product/yellow-sticky-traps/

I've read that pill bugs can help, but I'm at an in-between stage with my enclosures and want to wait to add them until I start with the new one.

My gnat problem isn't awful...yet, but looking for any easy and safe ideas to get rid of them before it gets worse.

All suggestions welcomed! Thank you!

I've used the traps. They keep the numbers manageable but won't get rid of the problem entirely. They're so sticky that they're a little hard to find safe places to put (be careful they can't fall into tortoise range or accidentally against the side of the enclosure - the extra sticky goop is hard to clean off surfaces).

I have and still do. As Sarah said, they don't get rid of the problem entirely, but they do help. For me, what has helped more are soil centipedes. Unfortunately they turned up quite by accident in planting trays that I was keeping outside and then moved indoors. I don't know if they are something you can purchase, but they are innocuous and have been coexisting with Odin in his indoor enclosures for nearly a year now and the fungus gnats are a distant memory.

Thank you both :)

How do you have them attached in your enclosures? I am using a tub at the moment, and getting ready to transition to a glass tank.

In the picture, it shows them held up by one of those ring clamp things...I'm guessing on a post. Trying to figure out if a holder like that work sunk into the substrate with the stickie up in the air, or if it'd just be trampled.

If they are similar to fly papers, I found with those that if they get too warm the gloopy stuff actually starts to drip off the end, so best try one out of enclosure first and see if it happens.

Ack. Thanks, Lyn! I hadn't thought of that happening at all.
