I rescued Scarlett a little over a year ago. She was egg bound with broken eggs. She had surgery, and her uterus had to be repaired. She had ripped it trying to lay the eggs. I kept her separated from my immature, I though, male this summer. She got into his enclosure twice. Less than 3 hours, before I separated them again.
She miraculously laid 3 clutches this summer. The 1st one hatched tonight! I would have bet money they weren't fertile.
Anyway, pictures!

This is awesome!!

26 grams is a very good size leopard baby.

How many eggs are you incubating?
22 More. Suspect there is only a few fertile in each of the 1st 2 clutches. The 3rd clutch was recently laid, so no idea yet.

Scarlett's is beautiful! Congratulations on the little hatchling and I'm sure you'll have more to come soon. How old is your Scarlett? Did you raise her from a hatchling? Here is my little six month old Ginger.

Love the name. She is very cute. Scarlett is at least 16 years, I think. I rescued her last fall from a pet shop. The story I was told is her owner passed away. Family didn't know how to care for the tortoises, she had been kept in a bath tub for a couple of months, and was egg bound with broken eggs. Had to have surgery.
I am pretty sure she is getting ready to lay a 4th clutch for the year. I have eggs coming out my ears. Looks like there is only a few fertile in each of the first 2 clutches. Should have a couple more babies any day.

Beautiful! Congrats

Love how the color appears to run into those rear scutes.

How exciting! Do you have homes lined up for all of your little ones? Would you consider shipping one? I read somewhere, I believe it was about Sonoran desert tortoises so I'm not sure if it applies to all tortoises, that the female tortoises can keep the male sperm "available" to themself for up to TWO YEARS! Therefore even living solitarily can lay fertile eggs for quiet some time. A friend of mine adopted a female that lives alone and after a full year laid fertile eggs last spring...Imagine her shock when she found the babies in her back yard! Isn't it also interesting that some of the eggs in your's clutch were fertile and not all? Fascinating.

I have read that they can retain sperm for a long time, up to 7 years. I do have a male. They were together only twice last spring, because Scarlett kept getting into his enclosure. The surgery was very invasive. Her uterus was torn and had to be repaired, so I don't know if she was carrying sperm or if it was my male.
I will be selling babies, and will ship. I live in NE Washington and am not going to sell them local. It is too cold to properly care for leopards here without a huge commitment.
No new pips to report currently though.
