What the heck?!? Is this tortoise trying to lay eggs?

I woke up to this sight today... first, neither of the two tortoises (est. ages 8 years) has ever flashed me, and both their tails look exactly the same.. sooooo, I assumed I had two girls or two immature boys. They had a nice longer than usual soak yesterday, so I don't know if that got things moving? Is it actually trying to lay an egg or just trying to give me a heart attack?

FYI, that hole was not there last night.

Looks like she is digging a nest to me. Tortoises do not have to be bred to start laying eggs. If indeed they are both female, obviously the eggs will not be fertile.

I sure hope so!

when they are digging the hole how is the tortoise tortoise laying?

It was laying right on the edge with the butt in the hole.
