I have a tortoise that I've had since he was 8 weeks old and this spring he wants to hump everything. He is aggressive and chases feet. He keeps mounting towels and squeaking. So I gave him a hand towel and now he won't stop mating with it. Is this ok? Should I remove it? It's just that he wants out of his cage all the time.
Isn't 2 years old too young for this behavior?

I don't know what to do. .. help!

Most tortoise become sexually mature according to size not age. As far as you giving him something to hump i dont know if it is okay. I wouldnt do it specially since its a towel like thing that the tortoise might eat part of it and get constipated.

Not unusual at all. My SA leopards started humping everything at one and a half years old. Had to separate them all.

They usually settle down a bit after a while, but not always.

I think my leopard must be a late starter!
No idea of his age but he is over 11 inches long now and apart from flashing occasionally and a fair bit of pacing at the start of spring I haven't noticed him attempting to mate with inanimate objects yet.

I had a male Redfoot that one day started humping everything in town and never stopped.
I sold him very inexpensively to another member that had ten or so females.
We all ended up happy.
.........especially the male redfoot;)

Goodness! What do you guys do to distract them? Is this going to be a constant thing or will he calm down once spring is over?

Has he ever been around a female?

Ive never seen my male adult russian try to hump anything. He had had his bits out on occasion though.
