I adopted this guy from the local herpetological society. Thanks to the wealth of information on this forum, I have been keeping him in a humid, warm environment and feeding him daily plenty of broadleaf plants from my yard a long with soaks once a week. My questions are: does it look like he has pyramiding? Should I increase the frequency of soaks? He does have two abnormal scutes, his history is unknown so I do not know if it has always been there or a result from an injury. Thanks for all the useful information on this website! Also, I check all plants on the tortoise table before feeding them :)

How big is he? I would probably soak more often than once a week, at least every other day.

The long interval between soaks might be a contributing factor in the scute growth abnormalities. The pyramiding is minor as far as I can see on those pics.

My question is : does it look like he has pyramiding?
Are you educating those of your local Herpetological society on the proper, correct ways of raising a sulcata in captivity? And can you please provide a side photo of your tortoise showing the carapace fully for a good answer to you pyramid question? This photo will go far for our responses.
Do you have a safe, outdoor are for it to graze with zero ability of dogs getting it? If so, post a picture of it…we all love photos and they help us to help you and your newest forever best friend.

I see zero pyramiding there. Thats one smooth shell. He may have been born with the scute deformity.

Hi. I'd give him more soaks, especially if you live in a place where the climate is a dry one like it is here in Jordan. I soak Oli two to three times a day during the very hot and dry Summer days. And I spray his enclosure with water daily.
