IMG_9755.PNG My baby sulcata barely eats anything but cactus pads. I want him to eat his other food but he doesn't. His other choices are tortoise bites by nature zone and natural grassland tortoise food by zoomed. What do I need to include In his diet?? What should I do to get him to eat?? Also, he is constantly falling asleep. Is that bad?? I'll soak him and he'll fall asleep. I'll try and feed him and he'll fall asleep. I'll put him in his cage and he'll take like 3 steps and fall asleep. I'm not sure if it's his upper respiratory.... zone more thing-- he always rubs his eyes with his front leg. Is that bad???

That water dish is a deadly dish, he could drown. Replace it with a clay saucer. As for food, he needs a lot more variety them what you mentioned. Grocery greens, kale, mustard and collard greens, red lettuce, ridichio endive, dandelion greens, rose of Sharon, hibiscus flower and leaf.
As for sleeping all the time. What are your temps? Basking should be 95-100. The whole enclosure should be 80 with a humidity of 80%

As others have said , when a tort isn't eating and is always sleeping the first thing that comes to mind is temperature inside the enclosure ! It should be no lower than 80 F anywhere , and this means down at the bottom "tortoise height" ! Chopping and mixing other foods with something they like will often also help !

These folks know what they're talking about! We just got a hatchling Sulcata and each morning he gets a new batch of chopped collard greens and kale and he'll eat on it most of the day until he goes into his hide for the night. From everything that everyone has told me and from I've read, variety is best, dark greens, spring mix salad without the spinach and don't forget Mazuri pellets, don't buy the small tortoise kind, I did and didn't have much luck so I just picked up the big pellets and I'll let you know how they work. Keep his temps up and his humidity up too! All of this is just from I've learned in the last 2 weeks lol so I'm obviously no expert but this is just what's worked for me! Good luck! Keep us posted!

Mazuri in any form should be well-soaked before giving it to your tortoise, so buy the least-expensive size.

I had an issue with my sulcata awhile back when I had low experience with them. Although the temps might be great for him, definitely make sure he's getting proper UVB light each day, Mine blew at one point and I didn't realize it for around a week, and he got really sickly and his eyes were closed most of the time! It was scary to say the least, but after I realized the UVB was off and I turned it back on he got better in about a day! Hope my past experience helps, I'm assuming you have the UVB on, but just a factor from an experience I had, good luck!
