Tortoise has abscess on side of head

My grandmother had been taking care of my tortoise and I noticed there was an abscess on the side of his face. I am taking him to the vet on Monday to get his beak trimmed anyway so I'll see what they say. I thought it could've been an ear infection but I was wondering if anyone else knows what it is.

most likely an inner ear u abscess the vet will have to drain and get some antibiotics. Relatively simple procedure

Ear abscess seems most likely given where it is placed, but that photo is a bit hard to see.

Is this your hingeback with the curly nails from your previous post? The nail and beak issues and now ear abscess point to some underlying care problems. If you want to post photos of your enclosure and talk about how you've been caring for this tortoise, people here will be able to help.

It looks too low to be at the ear area.

Could it be that something has bitten your tortoise ? Another tortoise or a mouse / rat ? Does your tortoise live outdoors ?

He does not have curly nails anymore. He is getting his beak trimmed tomorrow. And he has a diet of blueberries, strawberries, earth worms, romaine lettuce, and many other fruits and greens. He has a tub for soaking within the enclosure and another smaller water bowl. He also has a large hideout. I use a reptile bark substrate. He's never had any type of problem with his ears before.
