I recently bought the zoo med tortoise house for my 2 cherry heads, but the humidity won't stay constant unless I keep my humidifier on 24/7. I was thinking to place a piece of pexiglass on the opening to maintain the humidity in the enclosure but is it safe to place 100w CHE on top of the pexiglass?

Nope. CHE is incredibly hot. CRAZY hot. However you can have the Plexi cut to fit it or hang it inside with cage around it so torts can't get too close.

Those tortoise enclosures are not suitable for tortoises and you are seeing just one reason why. I say scrap it and build a proper enclosure that works for your tortoises.

Also, tortoises should not be kept in pairs. Its not good for them and frequently leads to problems or death.

They have been getting along with each other pretty well. They eat, sleep, and soak with each other in their enclosure with no problems.

At least that you know of there hasn't been a problem. The enclosure is too small for two torts. 2x4 is appropriate for one hatchling. you already have it, so I would add onto it or better yet make another enclosure and let them have their own before the bullying starts if it hasn't already.

Because they are not overtly hostile and attacking each other does not mean it is okay. Most people don't recognize the signs of tortoise aggression because they don't snarl, growl or bark. Following, snuggling, sitting on the food, sleeping side by side or face to face are all signs of tortoise aggression.

We told one member this a couple of years ago and she said the same thing. 6 weeks later she came back and asked what to do as one tortoise had literally eaten the tail and back leg of the other.

Oh wow I didn't know this, thank you for the helpful information I will keep this in mine and keep monitoring them making sure these signs are shown and if it does I will separate them immediately

Hello.

I would focus on increasing the area/size as much as possible and then use the tent method stated above. It's fairly economical and will help with humidity. Also, maybe using a more absorbent substrate will help. BOL
