My 8 year old Sulcata started digging yesterday. Now he has a full blown burrow under the wall of his enclosure. Should I be worried? Is this normal? I'm open to any suggestions or words of comfort. I thought I lucked out and got a tortoise that didn't dig! Jokes on me!

Where are you? What is the overnight low?

Cold night temps are the worry in most areas this time of year.

I'm in north Florida. We had a mild winter so I think the lows right now are mid 60s.

Haha! It might be more shaded over there. But the crazy thing is that he'll dig all day but as soon as it gets dark he goes into his box for the rest of the night. I think he's just trying to be a punk! Or maybe he's hot during the day?

They can use their burrow to remain cool in the summer too. Charlie stopped digging burrows after we built his night box a few years ago. In the summer, he digs a shallow sitting spot under a bush for coolness. You could try giving him a pond so he can cool off.

That's what I did . I made ponds for the big guys to cool down and no more digging . But if you have a female forget it she's digging .

Very cool! I'll have to try that. He has 2 watering dishes but he doesn't pay them much attention. And he's definitely a man. And he likes for it to be known... :-/
