I have a 3 year old tortoise who mainly lives inside. We built him an outdoor enclosure for this summer, which he has been enjoying. I've been bringing him inside if our temps drop down to 12 degrees celcius or below. But I wondered if it is better just to leave him outside?

We plan to bring him back inside once fall comes. Daytime temps have been 26 degrees lately. He stayed outside last night and seems fine. But I'm not sure what is best for him.

His enclosure is raccoon/predator proof. He has an area to hide underneath, soil to bury himself in, and water and food.

Thank you. ☺

They can certainly survive those temps, but I think it is over all a little too cool. I don't like to leave temperate species outside at night when temps are dropping below about 16, and even then only when the days are sunny and getting up to at least 30.

In your case, I'd bring him in at night, and put him out during the warmer part of the day.
