If you go to the sulcata threads Tom shows you how to build one.

I can't seem to post pictures either. My question is how does the inside look? What type of heating are you using? I read red lights are bad for their eyes, and also over head lights can burn their shells.

Greetings" i easily added a Reptile Basics radiant heat panel to the roof of our sullys house. Plug this into a thermostat, and it really warms well.

Heres the link http://www.reptilebasics.com/rbi-radiant-heat-panels

You can add the panel to the ceiling, a Kane heating mat for the floor.

that's horrible! people actually do that here?
Not the good forum members, but yes, when ever there is a free tort thread, you will usually get a post from a new member that became a member the same day they posted on that free tort thread. Not all will sell I'm sure. Some probably just want a tortoise and can't or don't want to pay for it. The best thing to do with those type is to question them a lot about the set up they have for the tortoise, ask for pictures of their set up and do your home work on them the best you can before rehoming to them.

that makes me so sad. I love reading the adoptions section because it's great to see how the community helps each other. It's really great when torts find a good home! But the world takes all kinds. :(

Victoria Y, if you husband says "no" and LaRue, if you still come to Florida in November, my husband and I will gladly take him (I didn't see a name given) for you. Just like any human "open adoption" I can send you photos any time you would like to see him. If you have facebook we do "go live video" of our property and animals all the time. I have a friend in California who has three sulcatas and absolutely loves them. She got one for each grandchild and is teaching them the upkeep so as they both grow they will become life long companions for them. We are on two acres with 1/4 of it fenced right now. We're getting ready to build another area where we will be adding (two of each) pigmy goats, miniature donkeys (not until 2019) and egg laying hens. I currently have three aquatic turtles (13 yo red eared slider, Crush and 3 yo Florida Snapper, appropriately named Snapper and a new baby approx 6 mo snapper my husband rescued the day before Irma visited so is named Irma) Crush and Irma live together outside in their own habitat while Snapper is inside in 100 gallon tank set up just for him. Summer 2018 Snapper will be moved outside as the pond is growing shortly from 4'x4' to 8'x10' due to the need of getting Snapper a larger area. They are fenced in their own garden sanctuary. Other animals can not get in and they can not get out. You sulcata will be living in the larger fenced area where the dogs like to play when they are not inside being lazy with me in the a/c. Either of you, Victoria or LaRue are welcome to email me if you would like at [email protected] or facebook me at CONNIE RENDAHL WILLIAMS.

I wish you luck in finding a happy home you feel comfortable giving your shelled friend to.

As of right now, I think I found a good home for Rocky. If anything changes I'll be sure to post back. Thanks to everyone who post advise or sent me messages.
"Rocky" I love the name!!! Thank you for saying you have a home for him. I have been on here a few times and recently saw where I could actually become a member so I only did so a few hours ago. I posted a few questions to Josh who welecomed me but I have yet to hear back. I wish both families success with your adoption! I have given you my email in my previous post if something should change.

I notice your location is Clovis. My brother in law lives in Clovis. My family lived in Visalia for 6 years before returning to Rancho Cordova (Sacto) and then hubby and I moved to Florida in 2013.

Not too many forum members here in my town. Does your B-I-L keep tortoises?

Sorry to say, that I know of he does not. His step daughter and her 5 year old son live with him. They have no yard though. They are in a small house not far from Kaiser off Hammer (? its been so long since I have driven out there I can't remember the names) anyhow the front yard has grass not fenced and back yard is all cement with a hottub on one side. At least when I visited them last which was about 5 years ago the baby had just been born that is what it looked like. Who knows he always talked about getting rid of the hot tub before the wife passed and now she is gone so maybe he put in grass for the grandson? I could ask if you would like to email me information I can send it to them: [email protected]

As you can see I am very new to the forum and I still learning my way around I just read where I can't try to adopt with less then 100 points or something like that. How do I earn points and exactly what can I do when I'm trying to upgrade the habitats I have, keep my house clean, my other pets happy, my husband happy and work? LOL give me some pointers please on collecting this "points".

It is 100 posts, just keep commenting or start your own threads until you hit 100 and beyond. If you're pretty active the posts rack up pretty quickly.

The rule is that new members have to have participated in 100 posts or more before they can sell something in the for sale section. Hey, adopt away. More power to you!!

I live in Visalia!
We lived in Visalia for 6 years, 1995-2001! We loved it there! We went to just about every Visalia Oaks baseball home game while we lived there. We were on the Boosters Board and housed some of the players. Hosted many swim and BBQ days at our place for the players! Still to this day very good friends with then their manager but they were disbanded and the Royals came in right after we moved. Husband got Valley Fever and almost died after being in bed for two years we moved back to Sacramento. We still miss Visalia!
