It's almost Halloween and time for my favorite part of the holiday: tortoise costumes! I usually just try to make it before the Petco contest, but this year I want to start early and do something really elaborate. I'm going to the store tomorrow for some model magic clay, but need ideas. People can use this thread to post pictures of past costumes or fun ideas. Happy Halloween:D!

So far my ideas are:
A turtle (paper fins attached to his shell above his legs and feet)
A pumpkin
Create a fake outer shell, then have a hole in it with worms and Halloween-y things things coming out (so it would be like a zombie tortoise)

Would putting an "outfit" on your tort help them to retain their body heat? Just a random question.

No, because they are cold-blooded. That only works with warm blooded creatures.
I wasn't sure if it would slow the heat from escaping that they had already soaked up. Like wrapping a warm casserole in a towel to make it stay warmer longer. I think they look adorable in their costumes although I can't crochet or knit to save my life, so there will probably be no outfits in my torts future.

I wouldn't, but I'm a typical reserved Brit. Pets don't do Hallowe'en; they do themselves day to day and look better in their natural form in my opinion!
I must be a typical conservative Russian then  Pet costumes are extremely cute, but I wouldn't either; for me it's a bit of an ethical question. (I'm not posting this to judge anyone, only to share an opinion.) As an alternative, there're many apps that add virtual accessories to a photo of your pet. Just my thought.

Here's as far as I was willing to go with Kristoff last year:

I love costumes, but on pets they make me squirm. For a photoshoot it's OK, but not for a party. I'm not sure what I would make for mine... maybe have the earth on Tank Girl's back, and a pile of glowing embers (fake of course) on Embers' back.
