Is this suitable for a Herman's tortoise? I've been feeding this lately and my tortoise seems to enjoy a lot. I only feed it 2 times per week with fresh greens.

Yes. If you are feeding a lot of grocery store greens to get through the cold winter, you can use it every day to mix in and amend the grocery store greens.

I compared Zoo med grassland against Mazuri and zoo med'sseems to have a better Fiber/protein ratio than Mazuri. If so, why is Mazuri more popular? Check below:

Zoo med Grassland Guaranteed Analysis
Crude Protein (min) 8.5%
Crude Fat (min) 1.9%
Crude Fiber (max) 22.0%

Mazuri Guaranteed Analysis
Crude protein (min) 15.0%
Crude fat (min) 3.0%
Crude fiber (max) 18.0%

For one thing, it's cheaper. I use them both.

I think its because Mazuri is like crack to tortoises and the zoo med pellets are more of an acquired taste sort of thing. From what i hear not many tortoises would eat the zoo med food - my hermans loves both.

Mazuri produces excellent results and the tortoise usually love it, so it can be used to get them eating other good things too. ZooMed looks good on paper, but most tortoises don't care for it. I think the ZooMed Grassland tortoise food is an excellent way to amend grocery store greens and add some fiber and variety for people in frozen climates.

My Sulcata loves Mazuri, I tried the ZooMed and he wont touch it. I tried mixing it with Mazuri, or his greens and he just takes a bite and walks away. The ingredients in the Zoo Med look good, but my tortoise is just not interested in it.

I think this is common. All of mine did the same thing. I had to introduce the ZooMed stuff slowly with tiny amounts at first. If you are persistent and don't try to use too much too soon, they will get used to it and come to like it.

Sounds like good advice to me, for a while I was chopping up Orchard grass hay very small and wetting it down and he was not very interested in it at all. I started mixing the hay with the Mazuri, and he slowly got used to it. Now if I chop up a small handful of the hay and just mix in two or three Mazuri pellets he will eat it pretty good. I will keep trying with the Zoo Med.

I just cracked open some of the forest stuff for the redfoots. I tried to soften it in water but it took forever and just turned the outer layer into mush and the inner was still hard. It doesn’t moisten like mazuri. The redfoots immediately took to mazuri and as far as I know have never been fed it. The zoo med they barely touched.

I usually leave it to soak 20 minutes before feeding usually soak them whenever I soak my tortoise so that by the time hes out he can chow down. I did have an accident not long ago where my tortoise was choking on the zoo med pellets. Even after soaking them for 20 minutes I always check if they are soft all the way through. luckily I always supervise my tortoise when hes eating.

That's because it's not fresh. But never fear. . . you can conquer the hard pellet. Place the amount you want to use into a bowl or cup and add too much water. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator overnight. In the a.m. all the water will have been absorbed, the hard centers are now soft and voila!! you have mush!!

(That's not a typo. I really meant to say add TOO MUCH WATER.)
