Well I can tell you it doesn't get any better when you're 40 and have a hot wife . I can't have enclosures in the house . So I had to build them way in the back yard . New tortioses are quarantined in the garage . So when new tortioses are in there I have to push my Harley out and close the door before I start it . Lol

Lol, but with me the tortoises would have to be part of the deal :)

Well at the show I handled my first snake which was pretty freaking awesome. At one point he kept trying to stretch out towards my dad and my dad was like stepping backwards so fast. Also I held a crocodilian of some sort which is even more crazy.

The key to getting your mom's and pops in on the reptile world is to show responsibilities. Like do your house work, home work without being told . Then get them to buy books on your favorite ones . Talk a lot about wanting to be a herpetologist . Most parents will feed their kids interest as long as it's beneficial. At least that's how it worked for me as a young pup.

Baby steps my young friend . I can tell you when I was 14/15 I had snakes and lizards. My mom hated the snakes . But came to love my iguana she even named him . She also baby sat him when I moved out . My hot wife knew what she was getting herself into . I've always had animals . She does everything with me . But the house is her area the backyard is my area . Lol

You're right, I'm working on getting on their good side at the moment. My mum is fine with reptiles as long as everything is coming out of my pocket. My dad is more difficult. Maybe you'll understand if I tell you that he hates/is scared of dogs.

Thing is, I don't actually want to be a herpetologist or whatnot. I want to be a designer/architect/engineer/idek of some sort. I heard about a landscape architect career for a zoo, which would be pretty cool seeing as I love designing animal enclosures.

Other things at the reptile show include: an absolute ton of chameleons, sulcatas for sale in these tiny enclosures that they can't even move in, parrots that put donations in the donation box for you with their beak, a Russian for sale labeled as a Greek, and enough bromeliads for a forest.

Building zoo exhibits would be an awesome career choice! I wired up some bat cages at the Houston zoo years ago . Back when I was an apprentice electrician. Awesome stuff seeing behide the scenes.

snakes are a very hard thing to win parents over on. it took me persistence of about 4 months and i assured them they wouldnt even have to see it or do anything with it if they didnt want to. next thing i know the first day she arrived my dad already wanted to handle her. i think the key for me is getting a smaller less intimidating snake than a ball python, something like a king snake. i wouldn’t recommend getting a hognose to someone whos parents are very one sided towards snakes because theyre mildly venomous. i dont even know how i convinced my parents to let me get a hognose but here i am View attachment 230683
Very nice !! I had a striped, California King that lived to be 24 years old !! Very nice looking snake, there !! Good luck with him !!

You must remember sulcatas that you are talking about are there for only for 8 hours. at the breeding faculty they are kept in much larger enclosures. This is only for a temporary place to sell them.

the first time me and my parents went to the vet when they walked out the acted like they knew more than me. You just have to show them you care same as @mike taylor said
