Hello all,

I am looking for some advice on misting systems. My Cherry Head hatchling will be arriving in a few weeks, and I am gathering the rest of what I need for an ideal hatchling enclosure. I will post details about my enclosure once it's up and running so to speak. (Any other advice on hatchling enclosures is also welcome!)

I will be going on vacation in mid June for 10 days, when this baby will be about 4 months old. I have somone who will be able to stop in once mid week to check on the cat and the tortoise. I have a rheostat and a day/night timer for the lights. My concern is primarily a dayly/twice daily misting.

What systems and timers do you all use? Also, what other advice do you have for preparing my enclosure to ensure my tort will be safe and adequetly fed and watered during the two 4 day gaps in daily hands on care?

Thanks in advance,
Hannah

I just got the Monsoon one from Exo Terra. its small so i don't know if the tank would last that long tho. I just set it up yesterday so i cant really give it a review yet but it seems to be working.

Mist King.
I've tried the ones that the stores like Petco sells. They lasted maybe a month or less, a couple of them. I returned for refund and went with the Mist King for my chameleon. Will out last any at Petco.

Setting up a correct "closed chamber" enclosure makes misting unnecessary almost entirely.
It releases humidity slowly and regularly through evaporation and only needs to be serviced once a week or less depending on the size.
In the past, years ago before I figured out closed chambers, I made something that worked for about ten bucks: An aquarium air pump with a section of line and fine airstone. All made for aquariums. I stuck the line in a tall, small plastic tube full of water. In my case a CRYSTAL LITE drink mix tube.
The fine bubbles gave off humidity. Didn't lower the air temp and only had to be refilled every few days.
Simple. But again...Unneeded with a closed chamber.

Thanks Zeropilot! I'll go explore the forum for some more info on closed chamber enclosures and make sure I shoot for that as I move forward with my set up.
