Hey guys. Pop the hermans tortoise has some shell deformities from his breeder. But I've just done a Jackson's ratio on him and it's come back as 0.30, this could just be explained by his deformities but they are only mild. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Welcome! And Oh my goodness. Does he get around well? How long have you had him? What is your soaking routine? Any pics of his enclosure?
I've read some posts on this forum that some members don't necessarily follow the jacksons formula. They look for other signs to indicate health in their torts.

Oh yer he walks and runs fine. The shell hasn't really effected him at all. We've had him probably about a year now, he gets soaked a few times a week atm because he's eyes get stuck together if not.

He's honestly a very happy tortoise it's only because the Jackson's ratio was so off that I thought I'd get some advice.

Thankyou all for your help, it's much appreciated

If those are mild deformities I don't want to know what you'd call serious. Yes, this explains the weird ratio.
But I'm glad it's not affecting him too much. :)

OK, I see now what you're talking about. That "pyramiding" is caused by lack of moisture during his first year, not by what he's been fed, or calcium, or whatever.

There's nothing you can do about it now. Just read the care sheet and make sure you're doing everything right and he'll be just fine - not perfect to look at, but just fine!
