I actually downloaded one called PictureThis months before I got my tortoise to try and learn some of the weeds growing here.
I think the apps work pretty good to help identify plants, but mine usually gives me a few options to match it to. If I can’t 100% identify it with the app and googling other pictures, I don’t feed it until I get an expert opinion. I think they are useful tools but you just have to absolutely make sure that you id correctly.
With the apps, you can take a picture of the plant and it will pull results to show you what it may be. I use the tortoise table after the app gives me an idea of the species of plant.
I will just reiterate in case somebody completely new stumbles along this thread, the app I posted works pretty good but it is not 100% accurate so don’t just accept what it says without completely verifying the plant.
Have you guys ever read or seen “Into the Wild”? It’s on Netflix and it’s based on a true story. The ending got me completely messed up from the incorrect plant id. [emoji23]
Yes! That’s the one.
I think they determined the guy in real life just died of starvation though. They just made it more interesting as a movie, but I’m still extra paranoid about plants.
The websites: davesgarden ---> forums ---> plant identification
and gardenweb ---> forums ---> name that plant
are pretty good.
I have no confidence in any app I have seen yet.
